I'm thinking brown, or a tan color. I wonder how Luan ply, sealed and 'glassed might work???

Steve
I used (contrary to your sugeestion in the cd) 1/4" luan for the outer skin, instead of 1/8 ply. My bad! Had to use screws to hold, along with construction adhesive. So, I now have to coat the top with something other than clear to hide the screws. The luan does have a nice grain to it, but I don't have a choice now. Tan or brown would look nice. I'm stripping the front up to the apex of the curve,(first six strips glued up today) with a piece of mahogany trim running horizontal as a transition. And the sides will be trimmed in mahogany as well.
Pics to follow.

Dan....In preparation for stripping the top of the SlumberMax...do you think you could get enough clamping pressure by running 4 or 5 tie down straps over the top? That was kind of my conceptual, not having been there.

BTW... that is looking really, really good. What a work of art!!!! :applause: :applause: :applause:

Dave
What would you connect the straps to? Would you make a lap all the way around the perimeter? Would have to be awful long straps! My guess is that the straps would have alot of stretch in them, but you might be able to add blocking between the straps and the strips , right where where you need the most pressure, to "shim" for a tighter hold! I've seen several builders on the forum use straps to hold ply down, but then again they don't have to put pressure evenly on multible strips. Steve Frederick uses a warped 2x4 under a strap to put pressure on his 1/8 ply! Might work here! Love your tree ornament!

I will take a few photos today, but I'm going to make edge trim for it to cover edges though.

I don't know if this pic helps or not. Corners rounded, nail holes will be covered with trim, then more epoxy!

Finally, stripping and epoxy are done! :applause: Ready for trim and varnish! Steel fenders are temporary until funds are appropriated for fiberglass.
