My Sink - Updated Finished Added Pics

Postby Mary K » Tue Feb 13, 2007 3:00 pm

I found this SS mixing bowl for $8 (Wallyworld) . I brought it in to work and one of the guys in the shop punched the hole out for the $7 Bar sink drain (lowes). Not to Shabby for 15 buckaroonies :R

Now I just have to figure out how to hook up the drain :? :? :?

Once I get the courage to actually cut a hole in my pretty counter, I will post pics. :NC Wish me luck!!!

Good find, MK! That will work as well as any commercial sink, and saved you some cash!

Good deal.... the Keep It Simple, Sweetheart method !!!

I have an older SS 15" bar sink that I thought of using but the new SS bowl looks much prettier and doesn't take up so much space, depth wise either.

Hi Mary,

Looks great!

Better than looks though, is using your head to come up with a fully functional item for less dollars.

Since most teardrops don't have holding tanks, there really isn't a need for a p trap, and any other potentially expensive plumbing parts.
I solved the same dilema on my mixing bowl sink by using a piece of vinyl tubing...also from lowes.
Heated it up just enough for it to slide over the tailpiece with a hair dryer, when it cooled, it was quite tight, no need for a clamp.
The flex tube allowed the drain to be routed further back in the corner, gaining me more storage space.

Thanks Yall!

After getting home, and trying to install the drain, I found that a flat bottom bowl doesn't conform to it very well.  I think I need a thin rubber washer for the inside of the bowl instead of using plummers putty.

Ahhhh well, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.....I'll keep ya updated with what works.

You could always make the hole smaller than the sink and install it above the counter...

Mary K can you use a washer intended for sinks on the bottom instead of top? Keep using your putty too.

Ya know, I had another, larger SS bowl ($3 from WinnDixie) that I was going to do just that. Install it 2" higher than the counter. But I really wanted the flush mounting look, then I found this smaller, but deep bowl. And if I mount it flush no one will see the jiggy cutout under the bowl lip. ;)

Mary, the putty should work fine, as long as it's flush enough for you and not sticking up a mile.

AND MAKE THAT HOLE SMALL AND USE THE SANDER TO FULLY OPEN IT TO SIZE!

Oh, the sink strainer Image came with a washer for the bottom (under the bowl).

There is a 1/8" gap inside (top) between the curved edge of the sink strainer and bowl... plumbers putty will be okay for there?? I was thinking another thin gasket/washer?

As for the hole.. it's already punched out.

Just put a lot of putty there, press hard, and scrape off excess.
