Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Has anyone extended to the front 6 inches and to the rear 6 inches? Im afraid that the interior will be a little too short and want the extra room inside.....

Any suggestions?

I was planning on the generic benroy plans on a 4x8 trailer. however, extending the floor plan by 12 inches basically in the center. Biscuit jointing 2 peices of 3/4 ply for the walls?


Any comments welcome please let me know.

I added 5 inches to the front and 6 inches on the rear of my 4 by 8 welded Tractor Supply trailer. I thought it would be easier than having to move the axle. The trailer is made out of thin angle and I believe it would have been a nightmare to move the axle. Living in a hot and humid area (eastern NC) I needed room to build in a Petcool and wanted more galley space.

I can get 4 x 9 ft ply locallyin pine, but I am going to build a rib frame to allow me to insulate better and reduce weight. I have pictures of the trailer mods in my Album if you want to see them. (I stiffened the tongue and added shocks while I wait for the air conditioner to arrive)

This is my first build so the tech questions can better be answered by others on the forum.

I'm about 7 miles SE of Goldsboro. Hopefully I will pick up my pace when the Petcool comes in and get a tear built. I don't have a garage and am building in my kitchen/den and in the yard so the heat and the smoke from the fire have taken a toll to date on my progress.

I hear ya there.... I have no garage either.... I will be purchasign the Trailer in the next couple weeks to get started on it.... My mother in-laws B/f has allteh wood workgin tools clamps etc..... I will put the trailer together myself and take it to his place to do the build..... I will also do AC but still trying to work out where to install it.

Cindi is all for the teardrop but that would be one way for her to put a sudden stop to my building

5'7" x 9' 6" but all I used was the tongue and the axle carriage and of course my friends thrown out handrail

You can build longer and wider. The goal with longer is to get the axle in the right place. See the Benroy plans at the top of the page.

For wider see www.mikenchell.com lots of pictures on how to do this.

I stretched out by 5x8 a foot or so to make 5x9, and I did this by taking the center cross members and putting them in the middle.

As I was reading this thread, I knew that I'd posted pictures of all this before. And del was kind enough to find the thread where I posted all of my pictures.

Now, I've got almost 7' in the cabin, and 2' in the galley. It's worked out well.
