Sides on frame question

Postby suckerpunched » Sun Feb 21, 2010 10:39 pm

I'm sure this has been addressed before,,,,but..... I'm using a HF 4x8 trailer and plan on 3/4" sides (woodie style) I've seen many plans with the ply sitting on the frame with the flooring in between,,,,(2x2 with ply)how do you work around the boltheads that hold the frame together????
I'm thinking about welding the frame joints and losing the bolts altogether.
Thanks in advance and for being here.......
If you see my harley on a trailer,,,,call the police cause it's being stolen...

just drill out a relief pocket for the bolt and washer to fit under.. a spade bit or forstner bit will do the trick and you can use it to counterbore the floor when it comes time to bolt it to the frame..

My flooring is 1x3 studs underneath a 1/2" ply base. It's more than strong enough, and my build is much larger than a tear. 2x2s are definitely overkill.

I just did exactly what afreegreek said for the washers... I built my frame to correspond with where the metal supports were, clamped it down in place, and jumped on it a few times. The jumping make tiny hexagonal indentations wherever a relief pocket needed to be drilled. I flipped it back off, bored all the reliefs out, and mounted it.
