Pre-Made Doors

Hello All;

Can anyone tell me who sells pre-made doors? I think they would seal better than any attempt I made.

I have checked sdtrippers index and could not find teardrop doors. The manufacturers listed make larger doors but not Teardrop sized. Little Guy sells theirs but they seem a little expensive. Would also like to look at other types.

You could do some serious searching for "drop-down feed windows", or take the easier and more direct route of buying them from Vintek1958 on eBay...

Prefab doors are available at www.bigwoodycampers.com. You can also find a kit there for everything needed for traditional doors.

...doors like that can be made to work...with some mods...keep in mind, that door is usually very lightweight and will possibly not stand up to heavy usage...they are often very light/single skinned (and obviously have no windows)...if possible, you might want to add some stiff foam(blue or pink) and maybe even some wood framing to stiffen them up...also note, they are not made to be locked/secured from the inside...other than that, ehh............

You're right about need for modification. I was thinking along the lines of them providing a mounting frame for the body of the tear, a hinged & framed door, and a working seal. They definitely would have to be beefed up, window added and latch provided. I guess well sealed doors can be accomplished without spending a lot of money if you have the skills, and they can also be made the exact shape you want. Or you can spend some bux and buy manufactured doors like the Little Guy.....nice, but spendy.

I sort of threw these cargo doors out there as a third option to think about. The price is right for some folk. Maybe someone on the forum has used similar doors and would have real-world feedback as to how they worked out?

I'm currently re-building my ttt door. You can see pics I took this morning in my album. I bought some poplar for framing and need to somehow repair the vinyl skin, or replace it with something else. Not too bad a job, given trailer doors for a manufactured trailer can run $300-400+. I got 9 bucks in it so far, more to come!

Zach's suggestion of Vintek1958 on eBay is where I got mine from. I did notice that the prices have gone up. (Unfortunately, I guess that is to be expected in these times.)

For me, I liked the fact that I didn't have to buy all the individual parts (windows, hinges, handles, locks, etc.) and then manufacture the door, all while being air & water-tight.

All in all, they worked great and I was very happy with them. Took me a bit of time (several practice holes on scrap wood) to make sure I got it right but they are nice.

Anybody use any of those rubber door stops (or something you made instead) to prevent your doors from slamming up against the sides?

I've seen two different types, both are round and inch tall: one is inch wide, the other is 2.5 inches wide.
