8) Well since Len LaDonna has an electric lift on his hatch I think something is workable. Just need some Jimmy riggin and cables that come down with the last sides is what comes to mind. I however am neither mechanic nor engineer.

It seems if the cables pull the top down with the sides, when the sides are secure so also will be the top. I don't think that will handle the wind issues though. :?

The one other way you can arrange the 'wall' panels is to fold them both the same way, so that the pop-up becomes quite offset either forwards or backwards. Here is an animation and section drawing:

As you can see, it's not too hard to build in a gas strut to open the roof. This design was used for a decade or more by a British motorhome company.

The downside is that the parallel folding means that all the parts have to be exactly the right size or it won't fold exactly parallel.
