What do you folks feel about the Swine Flu vaccination?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Miriam C. » Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:39 pm

 I get sick when I eat eggs so no flu shot for me. This area of Missouri has H1N1 and my granddaughter has the flu. They didn't say if it is Swine flu but gave her Tamiflu and it is reserved for emergency cases. I think they gave it to her because I asked about the CDC's speech about giving it to kids. Sure made her symptoms lessen fast.

I am taking Sambucol to boost my immune system.

Oh and I had Swine flu in the 60's. Hope it helps.

It had been many years since I had a flu shot until this year. My doc at the local VA insisted that it would be a good idea considering all my other "conditions". So I gave in to the "regular" flu shot and never felt any side effects (the ones the Air Force gave several years ago always seemed to give me the flu). I'm sure when the Swine flu shots are available the doc will talk me into that one too. She is doing an excellent job of controlling my other health issues so I trust her opinion so far. I think that is the key, if you have a doctor you trust, the decision becomes much easier. So far the shots are not available at the VA, at lest not openly anyway, so naturally there has been no mention of it.

The signs from Britain are that the swine flu is not as dangerous as the normal winter flus that roll in each year. So that's still dangerous, but not the end of life and civilisation as we know it, which is what some media are profiting from suggesting.

I'm disappointed as I'm going on holiday next week and so when a client who had just got swine flu phoned yesterday to suggest cancelling my visit, I had to agree it was a good idea. If I weren't about to travel, I would happily have gone and got infected as the sooner one is exposed to swine flu, the sooner all the fuss is over, providing one is in decent health.

I am also at the high risk category.  And this vaccination is free of charge. However Im really worried about its safety but without it it seems that its even more dangerous. In Northern Lapland (Rovaniemi) just in a short time there have been 1000 cases. Hmmm  This was reported on the news as well as newspapers.

Medical companies are raking in the funds with the media helping.. Geeee.

Noone here talks about the Bird Flu anymore either. Why is this?

I have had this argument with my daughter who has 2 small toddlers. She says "No they dont know enought about the Swine Flu shot and its side effects"
I asked her to tell me how many people have died from the Swine Flu Shot last week?. Answer: None. How many have died from Swine Flu last week? Answer : 11.
Enough said. Shes getting the kids the shot.
Marijo :peace:
Also the shot doesnt contain the live virus. The nasal spray does.
Hope to see you on the road.

High Risk

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Sun Oct 25, 2009 9:59 pm

8) Hi Finn,
I'd like to say I'm still recovering from the flu. I was off for a full week, as well as about half of my class, many absences of a longer duration. It hit the school I teach at and has gone through the various classes as kids/siblings share it with each other. However, the amount % of absences has been no more than an "average" flu season. One day we had 31% of our school population out. What is bad about the H1N1 is the severity of symptoms and length of them.

 I had it hit me out of the blue and could only stay in bed.
I slept 20 out of 24 hours the first two days. My neighbor, who delivered food to my door, found her daughter had come down with it two days after me and took her in for a test, and a dose of TamiFlu. Her daughter, 15, recovered days faster than I did because of the early diagnosis, within 24 hours of her high temp.

I had not had the flu for over a dozen years, and only got flu shots in the year 2000 and 2001 when I was taking care of an "at risk" person. The first year I got the shot I came down with symptoms that mimic the flu, but were gone within a day. Even though the shots can save lives, I still think about reports of the possible side effects...and do I want to be the one in a million who experiences them?? Life is uncertain....

Glad to hear you are recovering Nanny. My 13 year old Granddaughter came down with it. First symptom was a blinding headache. Next day same headache then fever, aches and pains. She had chest pain and they gave her Tamiflu. She recovered the severe symptoms in a couple of days. Tamiflu really helped.

The rest of us had what could be described as a bad respiratory infection. We weren't tested. I got her tested because of the fever and chest pains.

Everyone who is sick should be tested!

Ok...I've held back...but here's the solution.....

When you got to the doctor he wipes down the thermometer in alcohol right? It's meant to kill the bacteria.....So go ahead and cut out the middle man...just ingest enough alcohol to kill them right off from the get go. If they can't live in your intestinal flora...then they won't make you sick... and you won't spread it or get it.

this message brought to you courtesy of Canadian Club....and all the other distillers out there.

Alcohol....it's not just for fun...it's for health! ;)

We both got the seasonal flu shot and I also got the pneumonia shot.
We'll try to get the Swine Flu Shots when they become available.
FYI My Doctor says anyone who gets the flu from a flu shot needs to call Oslo and get the Nobel Prize for bring a dead virus back to life. What you have he says is a cold, not the flu.

   so what does he say about the regular flu...who you gonna call or blame on that one if you get it, or did he give you a guarantee? Judging on who they give a Nobel Peace prize to...I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in your statement!!! Doug

I've decided to take the best advice I could get. I'll probably be unable to post anything for the next six to eight weeks because I will either be drinking heavily or passed out on the floor.

Ultimately, it's a small price to pay for that level of protection.

Thanks Doug. Time to start my treatment.
