Starbucks will be open Christmas Day...

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

...my wife(aka thepoorgirl) is a nurse and since we don't have kids, she volunteers to work on Christmas so those with kids can be off...we usually do Christmas the day before and the payoff is she gets New Years Eve/day off...back during my trucking career, I spent several Christmas/New Years holidays on the road...that really stunk since most wharehouses were closed and you would end up with 10 days to get 500mi down the road..............

Working Holidays

Postby queeniejeanne » Fri Dec 24, 2010 8:34 am

I thank them profusely for working when I see them. Most need the money and if they have a holiday off, sometimes will not see a full paycheck.
Having worn a Police Uniform for 12 years, I worked Holidays and my people would get the holidays off. I made the schedule. Being a volunteer fireman along with my husband, we have gotten up from a table of family members eating a holiday meal more than once to respond to flu fire or such. We all have crosses to bear and wouldn't it be a perfect world if everyone didn't need someone to help them, save them, sell them milk for the baby, work for them, or in some cases die for them.

Peace on earth and wishes for happiness to all.

Yep, working the holidays is not much fun. Worked lots of holidays with Walgreens (drug store) and worked lots of holidays at Southwestern Bell Telephone too. Drug store was always busy but the phone company days dragged on. Not fun.

All three of my children work at a ski area teaching at the childrens' ski school and though that means they all worked today, on Christmas Day, I guess it does help some families keep a family tradition of being together over the holiday and skiing together on Christmas Day. This meant a change of our own traditional Christmas festivities but we managed to be together on Christmas eve, have Christmas dinner together with some close friends and also and most importantly, attend Christmas Midnight Mass together. My kids are all old enough that they understand the real meaning of the holiday. Although we had to deviate from our traditions, we still had a great Christmas. Hope all of you also enjoyed your Christmas, in whatever your traditional manners are.

Merry Christmas!

I worked yeaterday (Christmas Day) and it wasn't too busy. Still plenty of drunks driving, couple fighting and other fun stuff. Even on Christmas.

I'm not much of one to celebrate this overcommercialized version of the birth of Christ. I spent the day working on my place on the river, and then spent a quiet evening by myself looking out at the water and enjoying the campfire. :)
A note to the original post, my Nephew manages a Starbuck's in Mass., I know he had to work X-mas morning. :(
