How to jump to a specific page on multi page posts??

Postby Shanty » Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:31 pm

There are two particular multi-page posts I am following.
I am paging through already read pages with the "next" button at the bottom, but is there a way I can jump directly to (for example), page 28 instead?

Thanks,
David

When you see the thread listed, there is a little yellow page icon just to the right of the thread title. That will take you to new posts.

Either that or you can select the last page number listed under the post subject name. I did the same thing as you for a long time until I figured this out.

I don't think either of you answered the question. I also asked this sometime ago. Didn't get a solution. If David is reading an old thread with 57 pages, there will be no new posts. And if he's worked his way through 29 pages, how does he start on page 30 tomorrow without doing "next" 29 times?

I can suggest that before leaving the thread, you save the page to your "favorites"/bookmark list.

Here's how to do it...
When you visit a multi page thread, take a look at the end of the url on your browser.
You'll see something like this... postorder=asc&start=15
There are 15 posts per page, but page one starts out at zero, so the example above would take you to the start of page two.

You'll need to do some math, but here's how I'd go to page 28...
28 x 15 = 420 - 15 = 405... I'd simply change the ending of the url to read postorder=asc&start=405 then hit the Enter key.

Hope this helps...

When I find something particularly interesting that I think I might want to refer back to, I usually go up to the top and highlight and copy (press 'Cntl' & 'c' keys) the Internet address displayed. Then, I paste it (press 'Cntl' & 'v' keys) into a file on my computer, with an explanation of what it is for, and save it. Then, whenever I want to revisit that page, I just press the 'Cntl' key and click on the addy and it'll take me right to it.

Basically if I left off reading pg. 27 and wanted to read pg 28 when I came back, I'd click on the "go to" line below the subject name and select pg 28 to start reading there. Otherwise, if I had already read through everything and just wanted to go to the last page I'd select that one. Usually works for me but I don't always do things the easiest way either.

I think Dean's idea is clever. I had never thought of that one!

Thank you, everybody.

Paul, your build site is one of the posts I'm following. I wanted to be able to jump around within it, to check different stages of your build.

Judy, You got it! Yes, completed posts were the ones I was having trouble with. As also suggested by Sharon, I will be bookmarking interesting posts. This forum is absolutely chockers with useful information, and I can't rely on my memory to not do so.

Dean, Thank you for that method. I will be using it, even on my bookmarked posts.

Theresa, I tried your method, but couldn't get 'go to page..' to act for me.

Once again, thank you to all of you, you assistance is really appreciated.

David

Another alternative is to copy the URL of the last post you've read.

If you look at each of the post, on the top left corner there is a small page icon to the left of Image "Posted: Date, Time, Post subject:".

Using your mouse right click on the icon>copy URL>paste it to a notebook or another browser page. Then bookmark it. When you revisit that bookmark, it will bring you back to that specific post which could be in the middle of the page.

For example... If you wanted to come back to my post here, right click on the page icon, then paste it into another browser page. Brings you back to this very post.

I have a word document in a collapsible outline form that I copy notes, links, photo references etc..., and a short notation of what the link is about.
