We have a new 7-gallon water jug. Can anyone suggest a good way to get rid of the plastic-y smell inside?

I was not aware of oils being in isopropyl alcohol. Where did you hear that? I do know it will suspend oils in water allowing them to rinse out of container. Feel free to skip the alcohol and go with the sodium bicarb, by all means.
They carry some stuff at the RV dealers in parts that will do that also, I use it in our pop up water tank every spring after it sets all winter. Don't remember the name for it though .

When I got mine I filled it with hot water and a cap full of bleach and let it sit for about an hour. Then I rinsed it out several times and it was ready for use. Clean and disinfected.
I'm going to have the best-smelling water jug around...thanks, everyone!
