Hey, Mike! (or, should I say Hay, Mike!)

It's a job that you've done before and you know the people; so, that should make you happy.

When you apply for jobs, see if you can take the blank application home and have Angie help you fill it out (Think spelling). You might list some of your jobs like this hay job as "private farmer-contract work" Some of those guys will be too embarrassed to ask what that is; but, if they ask for a copy of the contract, tell them it's done the old fashioned way: On a handshake. Also, be proud of yourself. If anybody asks, tell them that all the local farmers know you and trust you to do a good job for them. That's why you can do work on a handshake. ;)

Slow, I really think...hope.... that your stomach problems might be related to something you're eating. Think back to what you ate or drank on the day - each day - that the gas problems started. See if there is something that you ate each of these days.

Even if you've been eating a certain food all your life, as you age, your digestive system produces less of certain digestive enzymes; and, what you used to eat may not be as acceptable to your body any more. Sometimes, all you have to do is cut back on a certain food. Other times, you have to totally cut that food out. For example, did you have scrambled eggs or buttermilk pancakes or biscuits with sausage gravy on the days that you had flatulence?

Please recognize this: If you don't figure out what is causing your stomach gas problem, most times, it will only get worse.

If your on well water you might want to get it tested.

Good for Angie! If she thinks it is dairy, she'll keep an eye on you and help if she can.
If you decide to have your well tested, pour a couple gallons of bleach down in the well about a week before you get it tested or you probably won't pass even if the well is okay. If you don't do that, the well people will try to sell you stuff you don't need. That's what people have to do around here. It's just the way things work.

I disagree.
If you pour bleach into the well before having it tested it defeats the purpose of the test. You need to find out if Coliform, or in your case Mike, Nitrates (& Heaven forbid, E-Coli) are present that could possibly be causing your physical illness. Some folks can build up a tolerance for Coliform Bacteria to a degree. I'm not saying if it is present (which it tends to be in some places, well design usually has impact on it, i.e.; dug or driven) that you should put in a chlorination system with reverse osmosis, alum injector, water softner, UV light, etc., but rather, the well should be bleach treated properly. (bleach treating is effective if done properly depending on your well type)
Just my opinion. :D

And NO, I'm not a salesman for any water treatment companies.

Okay, it's your right to disagree; but, I doubt you'll disagree with this: Slow doesn't seem to be sick all the time, which I would think he would be, if it were the water where he lives. Also, I would think that his parents or, at least, visitors would be getting sick and they don't seem to be. He and his parents have been drinking that water most, if not all, of their lives. But, what about the visitors? According to what Slow has said on this forum, he gets sickest after he has eaten somewhere other than home. Also, one doesn't usually get insomnia or depression from the water but one can be affected by those maladies if one has a food intolerance and/or is stressed.

By the way, in the hills nearby, nearly everybody treats their water with bleach every spring; or, is advised to. My thought was that I am doubtful that it is the water and I don't want Slow or his parents' pockets emptied by some money-hungry well guy. You are just trying to help and I was trying to be nice about it, too. Enough said. :peace:

Sharon,
My comment was only aimed at the well testing part and the acuracy of the test itself. Done.

I think it's butterflies in his stomach.

Try some Beano to see if that helps - nothing
to lose except a little gas.

Hey Slow, I found out that I was lactose intolerant last year, and so I switched to Lactaid milk. It's got lactase in it, which neutralizes the lactose. I can drink it straight, but if I drink a glass of regular milk, I get bad cramps, horrible gas, and even worse out back, if you know what I mean! My dad has the same issue, and I found out it might be hereditary. Either way, I would try just drinking a glass of milk and see if you have cramps, but on a day when you're not working. Just don't use any dairy except that milk in one day. If you do have that issue, I would try Lactaid milk and see if the reactions go away.

who test your water ? well companies ? where i live if you want your water tested you can send it to a college or university. best of all, its free. just sayin you know, no way would i have a well company or well diggers test my water. kinda like going to Bell and having them test your ears. of course you need a hearing aid.lol. but also i know not all states are the same. maybe you have to get it tested by such peeps.
