Yea we know how the V-22 program was - overbudget and obsolete after it went into service. You'd think that it would be armored a little better after lessons learned (?) in Iraq about IED's

As cool as that thing looks it is basically worthless. It can obviously be put out of commission so easily that it is kind of stupid to take it into hostile situations. From the looks of it small arms could disable it with very little trouble.
I am pretty sure I could build one for considerably less than 200k too.

Another thing I don't quite understand is the 45 mph top end capability with all modern components??? Give me a break, there's no reason that thing shouldn't be able to hit 80+ without even trying.

I drove the first vehical (humvee) in 183 convoys in and around Baghdad. About half without armor and half with(which we got ourselfs). Even without armor and just the canvas top and sides on a humvee, it is safer than that thing. It's too easy to see the occupants,......... and get to them.

Now why would you beef up a jeep that will only go 45mph? And really, if you shoot the driver you don't really need to destroy a perfectly good get away vehicle. Course who really wants a 45mph jeep......Guess we will always get it back.

Yup there were a lot of those surplus 45mph Jeeps around after WWII and most subsequent wars so I guess we'll have plenty of cheap toys in the years to come!!

It does seem silly not to just buy a regular jeep. could probably get 6-8 for the cost of one growler, nearly as capable.

I understand the need for such a vehicle, just not the need to specially engineered one when the basic vehicle is available off the shelf. It would be cool for one of the off road magazines to do a side by side test of a jeep and a growler.

It takes a bureaucracy.

Hard to believe the Pentagon was built in 16 months. But that was a long time ago.

I like the way Steve thinks. I have a collection of growlers and I only paid about $12 for each and filled with beer.
