In-N-Out Burgers in Texas!!!

Postby caseydog » Fri Apr 29, 2011 11:20 am

The first two In-N-Out burger joints in Texas are opening in a couple of weeks. One is about three miles from my house.

A little taste of California in North Texas.

Being from the hometown of "Whataburger," my only reaction is that we are again losing ground to foreign competition!

(I've had In-N-Out's, and they are pretty tasty, but I doubt they will ever show up down here.)
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

There is a Whataburger a couple blocks from the new In-N-Out burger. It may get hurt at first, due to the "newness" factor, but a Wataburger is different from an In-N-Out burger, and when you crave a Whataburger, you just can't go anywhere else for the same burger.

Last trip to LA, I got to use a town car service. I was hungry so the driver blew through an In-N-Out for me. I had forgotten how good they were.

Of course, we have Burgerville here in the Northwest. They still have my heart, but the In-N-Out ain't bad!

Ah, come on now. The burgers are fried rather than grilled. The french fries are cooked at just one temperature rather than cooked at a low temperature to get them cooked inside and then flash fried to crisp the outside. Fresh yes, good no (IMHO).

I've always found that a burger house that has "char broiled" on their sign puts out a much better burger.

I can pass by the numerous In and Out stores here with no problem.

But if they work for you, great.

I've found that ground sirloin cooked on a profane grill has a far superior flavor. If you are diligent, keep all the fixen's in stock, you can make a better burger in far less time than it takes to go to an In and Out Burger house. Not quite as convenient though.

Everything in life is a compromise.

Cheers,

Gus

I've never been a fan of IN-N-OUT, it's the Walmart of burger joints, fast, cheap and a limited menu. They do have neat "T" shirts though.

As Mightydog mentioned, Burgerville is far superior and we always stop at one on our way south.
The menu has turkey and other unusual items that are actually good. They try their best to offer healthy food at competitive prices.
Burgerville has bins for recycling your trash from garbage and charging stations for electric vehicles. :D Danny

There was one in Orlando but last time I drove by it was closed.

I've been on a burger hunt lately. Wataburger (to me) is nothing special, just pre-made patties with frozen fries.

In-n-Out fries are far superior. Burgers are also good. 5Guys fries are on par with I-n-O they give you a ton of them though. Their burgers are OK, but for a burger fries and drink, is a little expensive. Smash Burger has good burgers, a little crispy on the edges. Freddy's fries are matchstick which is different but a little hard to eat. Burgers are just OK.

So far the one I like most is called P Terry in Austin. Their fries were good, burgers were good, and the price was good.

In-n-Out...proof again that everyone has their own tastes. We have two in our area. I'm really not that impressed considering all the hype. They were crazy popular when they first opened but not so much now. I never go to them, they seem to have a policy around here of making all the orders so SLOW that there is always a line. Even if there are just a few cars in the lot and one in the drive-thru. Fast service just isn't on the menu, and no fast food is worth a 20+ minute wait for me. Others feelings may very of course. But they have one heck of a marketing package.

BUT- I never make a trip to the PNW without multiple planned stops for Burgerville. It's a taste of home still after all the years. I think I have every location memorized

If I ever get down Texas way I'll have to remember this Whataburger you all speak so highly of
