Hey

Here in Kansas it went to $3.40 a gallon today from $3.25 a gallon. :?

I read something interesting this week. It said gas in England was like $6.06( Maybe more, don't remember the exact amount) a gallon but if you removed the Goverment tax it was $1.89. When you removed the taxes from ours (like 60 cents) it was $2.39. Now I don't know is when the original article was written. But I would like to know what the english really get for their $4+ taxes and I would think elsewhere in Europe would be even worse, so I say why should we be like them? The federal goverment can waste more money than most states could even think about, and some people want them to have even more power/control......I don't think so!

If Obama says he will bring about change if elected I want to know his plan now. We can't wait for the next yahoo to get in office. Time has run out!!!

Today I paid $7.90 per US gallon and of that roughly $5.50 is tax, leaving $2.40 for the oil company/retailer/etc, so that bit is about the same is the US.

What do we get for the $5.50 tax? It's just part of our higher tax and higher public service political system, like most European countries - for example, that higher tax pays for healthcare that's free at the point of delivery.

Andrew,

I read somewhere on the web today that you were paying $10 a gallon. Hmmmm, I guess they were wrong.

I hope you still have that handy dandy bike... what do you call it, a quasar?

Double Whammy...gas has been up around $3.60/gallon but yesterday, a snowslide took out our hydropower so the city will be switching to diesel through mid summer...i.e. electricity is heading up 500%

$>

Emergency funds being sought in connection with Snettisham disaster
Juneau authorities are seeking emergency disaster funds in the aftermath of the avalanches that took out part of the transmission line from the Snettisham hydroelectric dam.

Gayle Wood of Alaska Electric, Light and Power says the office of Senator Ted Stevens has been in contact with utility general manager Tim McLeod.

The Assembly will conduct a special meeting at 5 p.m. to ratify City Manager Rod Swope's Declaration of a Local Disaster Emergency. Swope tells us it's the first step in order to secure emergency funding from the state and federal governments.

CBJ and A-E-L & P officials plan a press conference prior to that meeting at 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, Wood said there's even more damage to report to the transmission line that was initially struck early Wednesday morning by a massive avalanche.

A second slide later took out at least one or two towers.

The initial slide took out about a mile and a half of transmission line and four to five towers.

It's estimated repairs will take two to three months. That work won't start for a couple of weeks because of the unstable conditions in the area.

As a result, most of the power generated by the utility will be done with diesel generators.

There was concern initially about the supply of diesel for that need, but Wood says the supply is firm.

She says the local distributors feel confident that they'll be able to keep up with the utility's daily 100,000 gallon demand.

Residential rates were at 11 cents per kilowatt hour prior to the worst disaster experienced by the utility along the Snettisham line.

Wood says they figure it will jump to 50 cents and she says that's a conservative estimate.

Dang - that pic of my head photoshopped onto someone else's body just won't die!

For the record, I've got no two-wheelers any more and the Quasar I used to have was identical to the black one in these shots - the orange Genesis is a 2007 conversion of a current 650 Suzuki scooter.

The Genesis does the magic 100mpg, though that's with big British gallons - it's only 83mpg using US gallons.
