I HATE KODAK SOFTWARE!

Postby dakotamouse » Sun May 13, 2007 3:11 pm

I prefer to use Microsoft Picture It to edit pictures but If I have the Kodak Easyshare software loaded it won't allow me to use anything but Kodak. I wouldn't mind this but then I don't have a way to upload video from my camera. It does video too.

My husbands laptop will up load video but won't edit it. His came with Microsoft Video Digital Image the starter version loaded.

What do any of you use for software??

I have a Kodak camera (EasyShare P850) and I never loaded the Kodak software because I just don't need it for anything that I want to do. I have PhotoShop (and ImageReady) to edit any digital pics that I need to. To upload pics to my PC, I just plug the USB cable in and the computer treats the camera just like another hard drive. Just copy and paste your pics to the PC. You can also copy pictures back onto the camera if you want to this way.

The photos aren't the problem. Microsoft Piture It takes care of those very well, now that I have uninstalled Kodak's Easyshare. The problem is videos, what software to use for those... :?

I'd have to agree with that, I dumped Kodak soft ware and use Picasa from google.
Love the Kodak digital camera though. Bought a second one for our son.

What extension is used? (You know - videoname.???) Windows Movie Maker might do what you want.

I tried movie maker but it doesn't recognize that the camera is there. The video is stored in a .mov file. :?

Picasa would work well for photos but not for editing video. Windows media player will play videos but not upload or edit videos from my camera.

Brilliant suggestion, get a new puter because Kodak software stinks - by the way all you would get is the same lousy easyshare software, just the mac version.

having said that .mov is a quicktime extension, so if your camera makes quicktime movies probally the easiest way it to PAY APPLE $30 to upgrade to quicktime pro for PC so you can edit the movie or export it to another file format. You can get the quicktime player for free for your windows box so you can watch them, just won't be able to edit them with quicktime player.

Do a google search on "convert .mov to mpeg" and you will get lots of results and free programs that will do the conversion to allow you more options on software for editing.

I can attest to how great QT Pro is--and real easy to use. But I'm kind of confused about the original problem here in the first place:

I'm a Mac user, but depending on the file extension--.mov, wmp., etc.--when you double click it, yeah, it will launch a default application. But you can change the default.

Kodak doesn't "not let you use" anything else. Your system settings are doing that.
Here we go again!

I like to got to CNET downloads. If you set the filter for free you might find a program to do what you want for free. Most of what I want is low level work and can be found there free. I advise reading the program reviews, both site reviews and user reviews so as to avoid irritating nagware.

CNET also reviews purchase software if that is the route your interested in.

Here is a link to CNET downloads:

and here is a link to CNET video editing hits I got:
