not that I recall... there were a lot of familiar names, but do not recall Subaru.. I was surprised to see a mazda.. I had no idea it was an old name, but there was one there.... a lot were powered by 2 cycle motorcycle engines, especially those from countries that got whipped in ww2, like germany, italy and japan.

Is there any way to put a bunch of pics on an album on the net all at one time? If so, I'll put them all out there.. like on snapfish or yahoo? I want something I can do in one shot from a folder on my computer, and it has to be free..

In the meantime, here is a pic of the smallest car that can be legally registered in the USA... top speed, 30 mph.

I use Shutterfly just so I can upload all at the same time. And it's free.

del,

In Arne's picture of the small red cars is a Subaru 360{powder blue lower right hand corner}. Our local Subaru dealer has a brand new one,has only a few miles on it. They put it on display at sales/special events. They kept it when they first started selling Subaru's.

Now heres a teardrop hauler a Diablo{spanish version of the Smart car} http://youtube.com/watch?v=2Nww3DNP7ck Notice the 430 trying to scare the Diablo. Ok the Diablo was pumped a bit like this one
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cV4HdsDZX6c& ... ed&search= but still impressive. The wife & I are looking into a Smart car. Web fourms for Smart are starting to pop up. So far mostly overseas folks, and some are pumping them up with motorcyle engine components. Hey we would be just happy with 40+ MPG.

Boy Arne, I would love to go to one of those events! Some of the cars I recognize but there are several I have no idea as to what they are. We have been into sports cars and foreign cars for years and love to look at them. We have owned a lot of different ones over the years. How often do they have these shows? Why do they call them bubble cars?

Now, I would really love to have one of those Diablo's, all souped up. That would really be fun to run on the track.

Thanks for sharing them with us!!!!!

When I was in high school dad had a white car and a green van. The car looked like that one.

I think the 'bubble car' comes from the small ones where you are surrounded by glass... you look like you are in a bubble... they also call them micro cars.

This event, held in Brookline, MA, is held once per year, but there are others I've heard about..

I went because a friend has a mini van in the show, as in Mini Cooper delivery van, not minivan.. and it is all souped up with a 1285cc engine..! (which is smaller than my last Gold wing motorcycle)... it originally had an 850cc engine...

this is the one I went to: http://www.bubbledrome.com/mm_sked.htm

del,

In my school years my Dad bought a new 1962 VW bug sunroof. We used to have a blast standing on the back seats and riding out the top of the sunroof{God forbid we do that today}. His VW rusted out ,and looked at a 360 Subaru to replace it,in 69. Didn't buy one because his big feet got caught up in the pedals. Bought a VW bus instead{ us kids were getting bigger} Finally bought a Subaru 1600 4 dr sedan in 78. Had that car until 89,and bought a Justy{first air conditioned, automatic car}. He died in 91 and Mom drove the Justy up to 2 years ago at the age of 90 with only 55k on the odometer. The nephew bought it from her,and drove it to this late winter when he hit some ice on a steep hill, slammed into the back of a recycling truck, and totaled it. I think the Justy actually saved his life ,and he walked away unharmed, but a seat belt bruise. I have had Subarus since 79{a Brat} then 84 wag. to 96 wag. to 05 Outback. I have had very good luck with them. Out of all of them I wish I had my Brat back, what a fun car, killer in the snow.

Wife & I are looking into a Smart car when they get here. Both of us now work close to home, and the RAV 4 does canoe & teardrop duty. Just looking for something different, that's easy on gas for general errand running.

Heres a web page to take you back to early days of Subaru
