Another doggie joins the fray...

A few weeks ago we picked up another puppy (our 2nd). Again, a miniature schnauzer.

Joey was only 12 weeks old, and he is sure keeping us busy right now, with training, etc...

But now Pepper has company all day long! And we have two furnaces for those cold nights while camping... i.e. "Two Dog Night!"

Here's Joey!

And yes, Joey and Pepper get along just fine!

Mike...

P.S. That also means that any teardrops or trailers we design for ourselves must have room for two crates, in addition to all the other comforts we like. Just a bit of a challenge.

Yep, we've definitely got our hands full, and probably will for a few months yet.

The biggest challenge right now is getting him outside when he needs to go... although, he's been really good.. only had a couple accidents.

The other challenge is teaching him not to bite, and he's getting much better at that too.

Right now he wears us out every day... hopefully that'll get better soon too!

It's funny you should mention that... Pepper has infact been training Joey.

And he uses a language we don't understand.

For example, the other day he grabbed a bone, and waltzed around Joey for a while growling with the bone in his mouth, and then he gave the bone to Joey.

Another time he grabbed a toy and did the same thing, growled for a while and ran circles around him, and then gave him the toy. :?

And of course, if Joey bites Pepper, which he does when he wants to play, they will wrestle for a while. They wear each other out too, which is a good thing!

Then they take their naps, sometimes even on the same pillow...

In honor of your new best friend, it's time to give you a new Indian name--we'll call you "Camps with Wolves"
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

To stop him from biting you make a high pitched squeal of pain. That is what happened with his litter mates and they understand. He will get idea and you can follow up with a "no bite" command.

Have fun, two is a much better number.

Pepper was letting Joey know that he's in charge, but he'll take care of him too. I love watching dogs be dogs together. Its really facsinating.

Keep them pictures coming! They are so darn cute!!!!

Mike, it's mainly about the dogs teaching us what they need/want...and the finer points of that language Pepper's teaching the puppy. ;)

BTW, you will have to see how they get on as the puppy grows, but you may not need to plan for two crates. You might be okay with one crate, size to be determined by how the dogs interact. Depending on the size and manufactuer, you can even get crates which are about twice as long as wide (but still the appropriate height for mini schnauzers, not too tall) which have a divider and two doors.

Casey and M. have separate crates...but at a certain point, Casey (the old man) decided that M. (the new girl) was a very good bed warmer/partner. Casey is in my old setter-sized crate (so he can walk in and out without having to jump/be lifted up), and the two sleeping in it together still only take up half the space of the crate. If your two do end up repeating that pillow picture in the crate, and they're only crated for sleeping, then you may be able to find a crate about half again as long as Pepper's crate that will work for both of them. Give it a bit of time.

Gaelen
two dogs, 17 crates (don't ask...as clamps are to a teardrop builder, so are crates to a dog trainer! 17 is down from a previous high of 49...when I had 5 dogs)
