...getting HIP (update 8/26)

Postby madjack » Sat Jul 18, 2009 11:51 pm

...actually, I am already so hip, all the "cool kids" come ask me for advice :D  ;) ...anyway, if you have camped with me over the last several years you might have noticed I have had mobility problems related to degenerative arthritis of my hip(s)...this has been many years in the making and about 2years past time to do something about it....sooooo......

I went to NAPA and checked out their catalogs and found a heavy duty StainlessSteel Heim joint that looked just right and I bought it...went over to the meat market and talked to the head butcher, my good friend Boudreau. Together, we went and talked with his little brother, Thibeaudeau who is the head mechanic for the local John Deere dealer...gathering at my house and while sharing a few cool ones, we watched some little Chinese fellahs on UTube doing a hip replacement using DeWalt battery powered tools...heck, we can do that...and I can get a hip replacement for under 50 bucks Vs the $70,000 the doctor wanted and that includes the price of a bottle of 101proof Kentucky anesthesia...
...so this coming Tuesday, we are gonna doit!!!!! Wish me(us) luck

Best of luck with the op MJ. I have friends who swear they waited too long, also. It's probably something I'll have to do when I'm as old as you are

Cheers
Paul

Paul. virtually everyone I have talked to said their biggest regret was not doing it a couple of years earlier...I am afraid I have done the same(waited a couple of years too long)...sure hope I feel that way in a month orso...my goal is, come the end of Oct, to be able to walk the loop at LCGIV...something I have been unable(or unwilling) to do so far...........

Good luck Madjack

My stepdad had one done a year ago, and he said a few days later the constant pain was gone, and like the others, he should have done it sooner.

Take care.

Good luck MJ. Watch out for them hospital folk though, last time I was there they kept waking me up to punch holes in me. Next time I think I'm gonna take an ice pick or a scratch awl with me and get some revenge.

Good luck with the repairs MJ. FIL had both done 3 years ago, made a huge difference for him. The trick seems to be following the exercise routine thoroughly after the surgery. Keep moving.

Keep us updated and best of luck!
