Making some money on the side...

Postby caseydog » Tue Oct 27, 2009 1:19 pm

With business being slow, I'm always looking for ways to make a bit of cash on the side. Of course, the internet is full of "make money opportunities," but I'd wager that at least 90-percent of them are scams.

So, has anyone here actually had any good fortune with any "money on the side" programs?

Try this link:

http://www.lionbridge.com/lionbridge/en-US/company/work-with-us.htm

I work from home about 10 hrs/week for them and have been since May. I am an internet rater, but I believe it is similar to the assessor job listed on this link. The test is not super hard, but you should be a "detail" person.

I can work the hours I want, and can always take off and not work when I want.

Was thinking .. Why work for some one else? Why not do what you like and build a teardrop to sell? Was just thinking.

If you can type well... I make all my money from home as an independant contractor for a few different companies. It's also something you could do on evenings, weekends, or whenever.

I do a lot of odd jobs, mostly for the little old retired widows around here. I do not take on many jobs that a real contractor would be able to do for a reasonable price. I do the best work I can for the least money I can as the main goal of my little "business" is to help my wife pay the bills and help the old folks out with the everyday chores. Changing water filters, replacing weather stripping, that kind of thing. I did install a new microwave/range hood for a lady a couple of days ago because she wanted a microwave with a trun table, she insisted that I haul off the old one which was working fine so with that and the flat rate I charged for the install I came out of that one well paid. I once replaced an attic ladder (stair), that is one job I will never again do alone, I got it done but it is a killer for one person, even with a scafold and a block and tackle, didn't charge near enough for that one.

Besides my internet job,I also do insurance billing for a social worker, and that just involves entering data in a form for paper copy to mail, or entering data on BCBS e-filing site.

I also do bookkeeping/data entry in Excel for a friend who buys badly damaged homes in historic neighborhoods and restores them. I track his basis in the property and help track what can be used for historic tax credits. When he is out of the country working, I collect rent, work with contractors, and generally keep things running.

All of this helps supplement my modest pension, and keeps me busy during the day.

You'd be lucky to recoup the cost of materials, much less make money... If you don't mind working for $.01 an hour...

The landscape is littered with teardrop builders dreams...

Let's see, last year my wife and I:

1. Entered a photo contest and won $100.
2. Bought a lot of cast iron, kept some, sold some made a few dollars.
3. Wife sold her hair and few DVDs. Made about $2900.
4. Did a garage sale for another $400.

This of course excludes getting stuff through fishing and berry picking. I also haven't made money back on a website but I am still working on it.

Annual Sale

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Tue Oct 27, 2009 11:53 pm

My Mom and I have held an annual Garage Sale and usually make about $1K. We had planned to do our event on the weekend of 10/17-18, but had to postpone it due to the nasty flu I got. If the weather holds, we will do it this Halloween weekend. Everyone has something they don't need or don't use, but continue to keep it. I started thinking, what do I REALLY need??? And now I can get rid of so much 'stuff' cuz I just keep thinking...all I really need should be able to fit into a Teardrop. ;)
