Perhaps, in their areas, they don't have the poisonous varieties. Here, in California, we have to be very careful because there are so many poisonous mushrooms tha mimic the edible ones. (By the way, one of the foremost mushroom experts in the nation lives just a few miles from here and usually does a mushroom walk and talk every spring. I don't know if she'll be doing it this year, though, because her life mate is dying of cancer.)

Yes,

We eat every single one, along with wild asparagus and other treats.
The beverages we have to get at the store, too busy searching the woods for food to learn how to make my own... ;)

(Jeff, don't give up yet, usually a few weeks after the little ones pop up, the really big yellows start sprouting, you have to look every few days or you'll miss them)

Gary, don't keep your 'shrooms in ANY plastic bag. The moisture coming off them can make them turn bad and may make you sick...

Thanks for the info, Jeff.

I found those on my acreage (much to my surprise) and couldn't find a net bag for collecting, so improvised by poking some holes in the plastic bag. I had read that it's important that the spores? are distributed?? Wasn't but a few minutes before I shared some with neighbors and put some others on the stove. Then, put the others in the dehydrator. They were delicious!

Thanks for the link, I'll need to study up.

(PS: Put Beavers Bend on your list of gatherings, great time and you were missed.)
