kidney stones

Postby pete42 » Sun Apr 07, 2013 7:08 pm

If you have ever had kidney stones you know how much they hurt, throw in being sick, fever, headache nauseated but not to the point of vomiting
spread it out over eight days it stops being funny.

every time I think it has passed the pain starts slow and builds I've taken some old pain pills that seem to help calm it down a little
tonight is the last night I'm putting up with the pain it's off to my local VA hospital in the morning unless I pass it tonight.

wish me luck.

At least you’re not having any trouble breathing. Oh wait a minute, I think I'm suppose to feel sorry for you. OK

Good luck getting through the night, Pete. Hopefully, the VA doctors can break it up so you can pass it.
Any kind of pain can be nasty but kidney stones are said to be among the worst types of pain.

Our son had them twice, at 12 and 16. Had to have them broken the last time.
Feel better soon

Oh, man! All sympathy to you. Been there, done that, too many times. I know what you are going through. I wish you a skilled surgeon, speedy recovery, and good narcotics in the mean time till it stops hurting. :(

Mother said she would rather have had her four kids at one time rather than to deal with one kidney stone, Pete. I guess that would explain the pain enough to me.

Yes, go to the VA, get those good drugs, and get rid of it. You know you'll feel so much better.

Good luck

I had episodes twice with kidney stones. I know for a fact I would rather give birth naturally then ever have a kidney stone again!

For the pain you need ridiculous amounts of nsaids.

You might want to review your diet, with the intent of getting your uric acid levels down.

And start liking lemonade. A shot of lemon juice, chased with a small glass of water. Every hour or two.

Here's some more information on uric acid... http://goutsolutions101.com/how-to-get-rid-of-gout/

Mike,

I just went through kidney stones a couple months ago (basket removal, with stent... :frightened: )
Uric acid is just one of several causes for them.
Nsaid's might work for some people, but hydrocodone and oxycodone did the job pretty well for me.

I've had kidney stones 3 times. Twice I passed them...could not believe the pain of the final 6 inches of the jouney, and the blood that came with it as it they cut and slashed their way out. The other one was "the size of a large marble" according to the doctor. I have a 6 inch scar on my left side where they said there was no other way for it to get out of the kidney, never mind get out of my body. I wish you the best of luck because I know the pain you are feeling. My last was over 30 years ago, but I can remember it like it was yesterday. And don't be a hero...if they offer you drugs to lessen the pain, take them. Billions of dollars was spent developing them so you don't have to suffer! I wish you a speedy recovery.

My dad is a very stoic man. I only saw him tear up twice in my lifetime. When my mom died and when he had kidney stones. That's gotta be way up there on the pain scale. My wife's had 'em twice. Drugs and Lithotripsy is what took care of it for her.
