Clearance/sidemarker lights?

"Amber in the front, red in the back" - the Optronics LED light kit I'm planning to use probably has the red marker light built into the combi tail lights, and I'm planning on mounting them to the back edge of the fenders, so I think I got the placement on those right, but what's the prescribed placement for the amber front clearance lights? My assumption based on diagrams, etc. is that it would be low and forward on the body, but I'm familiar with dissecting "assume", and don't want to fail the "newbuild registration exam" by misplacing something tough to move.

Also, is there a penalty for having the amber markers on a trailer that measures 78" over the fenders?

According to NHSTA:

Each side at front - as far forward as practicable and at least 15" from the ground.

you should also be able to see the light at a 45 degree angle both ahead of and behind the light, so make sure it is not blocked by anything, like a tongue box or spare tire mount

of course, they wont harass you for having too many lights
