Running Lights

Postby nrody » Tue Jun 14, 2011 2:26 pm

This is just for curiosity sake. When running the wires for the brake and running lights under the frame, do you run them down the center then lateral to tail/brake lights, and brakes of the trailer, on the left side or the right side? And what are your reasons where you chose to run the wires.?

I ran each set on it's respective side of the trailer. For two reasons, one of which was easy access to the wires for side marker/running lights, and the second was because I confuse really easily, so it made getting the right and left not mixed up easier.

I also ran running / tailights down each side then to my junction box, no splice on the left or right. Home run from the light to the j-box. The reason, it seemed the most logical and direct way, but then I'm left handed. :?

unless I'm using a shielded cable (larger cable with all of the wires, individually shielded, inside of a larger shield) then I seperate the wires and run them down their respective sides...if it is one large cable, it goes down the left (street) side, just because thats a common practice.

I would not suggest running the wires down the center. There is a higher chance of a rock or stick, or some other debris, coming off the tires and hitting them. If your frame is boxed in, or at least a C-channel, I would suggest running them inside the frame. Put them inside a corugated loom, PVC pipe, or something along those lines to keep them from rubbing through and shorting to the frame.

What side?

I have some conduit and think I will run the wires down the side like suggested above.
