Four pins, five wires?

Postby csdivine » Sun Apr 08, 2007 6:11 pm

I have been trying to determine if my trailer is wired incorrectly (which I doubt) or if my U-Haul installed hitch wiring power module has gone bad. The trailer lights aren't working correctly.

But while investigating, I noticed this:

Why would my trailer's factory-installed 4-pin connector have five wires running into it :QM

Two of the wires go to one pin. I think it is the wire that supplies power for the running lights. You want both sides on at the same time.

Brown and brown with yellow stripe are connected together.
Yikes, looks like a nuclear melt down.

Possibly someone installed a new plug. That one looks a bit beat up so check your female side and see if the connectors are spread and not getting a good connection.
