I have actually been to your area in winter and understand. I wonder if you would be better off with a Heater Buddy or some other kind of propane.

You can of course use two batteries and use one while charging the other.......

Two batteries is quite a simple solution, but only you can tell about the extra weight based on your current weight, tow vehicle etc. I also am thinking of dual batteries for those times when I'll be in a park where there is no power for my charger.

I have 2 deep cycles I carry in the back of the truck, but they are hooked to my inverter. We run a coffee maker and electric skillet, and when it gets really cold I just start the truck and run the electric heater for awhile. I do a lot of deck work in the sumer, so if there is no power where I am working, I just us the inverter to run my tools.
We have been doing a lot of camping the the nonelectric areas, keeps us away from the big rigs that block the sun, ha.
The other nice thing about the inverter, I can use it to charge the tear battery too. I just bring the battery charger from home, makes it a little faster.
