DC Circuit Breakers

Postby Thomcat316 » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:30 am

The time has come to prepare to wire this thing for real, and I'm planning on putting in a panel with 12VDC and 120VAC toggle-style breakers to both protect and control the various circuits.

The list be:
12V refrigeration (6A)
12V interior lighting/fan (5A)
12V outlets (interior and galley) (15A)
120V refrigeration (2A)
120V charger/converter (5A)
120V outlets (interior and galley) (15A)

I'm hoping to find breakers in both voltages with the same form factor, preferably using through-hole panel mounting, in the $10-20/each range.

Any suggested sources?

Since you are in Ft Lauderdale, I'd suggest finding a marine surplus store for your panel mount single pole breakers. Boat electrics are compact in size and high quality.

For DC circuit breakers try these online electrical supplies....

http://www.delcity.net/store/Circuit-Breakers/

http://order.waytekwire.com/category2/M ... rotection/

Specialty Suppliers (marine- auto racing) ) tend to be more expensive than "general retail"... Shop wisely....

On the first build, we used the panel mount, push button circuit breakers from Waytek...nice form factor, about half the size of a match box...we used an old piece of Formica, painted black for a panel front and mounted them in a cabinet...worked well for us at around 3bux/per........

Found some!

They are here....

Biggest advantage over all the other options is the fact that I can get away with a 5/8" mounting hole and no additional foolery - most other methods require that I borrow a CNC engraver/router or pay someone to do it.

These will pop into 5/8" holes and a dab of 3M 5200 under the bezel will keep them from rotating.

Next biggest advantage is the price - real live breakers for <$5/ea. Sure beats the $14-20 I was seeing elsewhere.
