8 inch v. 12 inch

Postby EdwardJKopper » Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:35 pm

Hi, I'm new to this site and I recently purchased a 4 x 8 Benroy which the man nearly completed. The wheels are the 8 incher 4-bolts and the trailer is from HF. I see where I can replace these with the 4-bolt 12 inch wheels / tires.

Is this recommended to do? My buddy at work is saying to get rid of the 8 inchers.

Thank you for any insights.

If the traier wieght doesn't go over the tire specs, I would say it's fine. Most use bigger tires because the look better.

Keep in mind, if you do try a change, HF axles are metric, I'm not sure you be able to find replacement hubs for it, plus on most, the hub face is very close to the frame, so you may not find another tire to fit without rubbing on the frame. Take measurements of everything before you buy anything. The only possible solution would be is to buy HF hubs and 12" tires (they don't have any bigger), or replace the whole axle. Keep us updated.
