QUESTION, RED-TRAILERS

Postby Olguy » Fri Aug 08, 2008 3:42 pm

Hello all.... 8)
"Sorry ", Ive been down health wise. Im back working on ground zero for my tear.... My question is to anyone whom can explain WHY  RED TRAILERS will NOT Ship or allow pick-up of the 5 x 10 trailer(other than at Pa.)?? :x I called them ( no resons given), I sent 2 emails requsting the reason(s) (no responce) for this ignorant situation only to be disregaurded... .... As george burns said" Lord I wish I was eighteen again".. They will ship the model# sj-8519. Same trailer only with ramps, rails and mesh sides, bottom and $800.00, but not model # sj-8535 for $599.00. I think they are some what arrogaunt to list the model # sj-8535 as a TEAR-DROP trailer for the home bulider, then only allow Pa. Home Buliders to have acess to it.... Whats up with that????? I need a 5 x 10 for my bulid. I will extend a N.T. 5 x 8 if I have too, but this 5 x 10 is red is perfect.....and they KNOW IT!!! :x :x :x

The reason the trailer can't be shipped is because it has a one piece bed. The others have multiple sections for the bed.

That's strange, they shipped my 5x10.

They must not have a shipper for it. And the custom shippers have gotten very expensive.

Yes, it's the 5x10 teardrop trailer shown here: http://www.redtrailers.com/ShowTrailer.asp?id=16

Check out how I used it, here: http://www.mikenchell.com/Generic_ET_Photo_Album/

Shipping must have gotten to be to much. They won't ship now. That is the trailer I wanted to use, but going to build one now. Will be better anyway, as I can go with 15" tires.

That doesn't make sense. Gas prices HAVE increased shipping costs but shipping is a cost paid by the buyer, not the seller. If shipping is that high, it should be up to the buyer whether they want to pay for it or not.

Thats' the trailer I'm looking at getting. But I may go with a 5x8 and extend out sideways to make a bed/table combo like Mike is doing with the ET. I'm going on a camping trip to Gettysburg PA in October, I maybe able to just pick one up on my way back. I'll have to see...

Redtrailers.com

Postby SIXTOTWO » Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:50 pm

Hello, I was just gonna post this and decided to look to see what others have said....Has anyone else expierenced problems with redtrailers.com? Mainly getting the order right?....

Anyhoo, I checked out their site and decided to go with the 5X10 trailer...got to the shipping page and was disappointed to find out they wouldn't ship. THEN noticed that they were right around the corner from me in the next town(Quakertown) oh great! YAY so I went ahead and ordered our trailer. :R

I received nothing as to when I could pick it up so I gave them a call. They proceede to tell me that we will have to go to Nazareth (over an hour away from us. STINK!) to pick it up. WHAT!!!!!! (as the price of our trailer goes up with the price of gas) OK so we take a Saturday and go up there.

When we get there they were scrambling to find all the pieces to our trailer, the box was barely there, they had to tell us that they would send the hubs later, they couldn't find them.

OK so another week and a half goes by and the hubs come...turns out they were the wrong ones... :?

Another week and a half later we get other hubs. (I know this is long but I'll go on...) We put them on the axle and there's nothing to keep the nut from backing off the axle. BTW there was NO instruction with the trailer as to how it goes together. They said it's on their site (well, I'll tell you, it's NOT there!) :x

Mind you...we are not stupid people so we thought we could do it without written instruction.

We call redtrailer and they say we are missing a spring clip and they will send us one. Husband thinks they are missing a washer too but they insist not.

They send us clips by way of FedEX with a tracking #, so of course we're waiting on pins and needles at our computer to get these clips that will do the job, we watch them go from Bethlehem, PA all the way to Hudson, TX and back to us right near their Quakertown location. How frustrating that was!!! We get the springs two weeks later, try to figure out how they go on and realize that these can't be right! AARRGGHH!!! :x

I'm livid by now after asking advice from everyone we know who might have an inkling as to how they work. :worship:

I now decide I'm gonna stop in and see what they say...keeping my cool...I explain to the secretary our dilema(receiving NO symapthy at all from anyone in the office mind you!)

Paul(I guess the owner) tells me that no the clips will not work on the nut that we have. hummmmm! I mention that maybe we have the wrong axle or something(stating that the box WAS a mess when we picked it up) They insisted that that couldn't possably be the problem. He says he will go to the Nazareth warehouse and get the parts we need and personally bring them to our house in the morning. OK great, we'll have someone physically seeing our dilema with this trailer. :applause:

Well that was yesterday that I stopped in, TODAY we get a UPS shipment of an axle, hubs and various other parts. No sign of Mr. Owner guy, no explanation, nothing... I kept my cool the entire time but he still seems to be kinda cowardess in all this. Strange!

Needless to say we just may get our axle on the 5X10 trailer that we ordered over a month ago. OR NOT????!!! ;)

I have to say too that they are in the middle of moving so this could be some of the problem but some kind of explanation would be expected. AND instructions for the product purchased would be nice too!

Wow! You had a really crappy experience.
If I remember correctly (I got the 5x8 folding trailer from them), they had backordered me a couple of times, which held me up about a month. We went out to Quakertown to pick up, got everything we needed, although I can't say that the people there seemed entirely competent. There was nobody there to notorize the bill of sale so the guy who (I guess) was in charge took it away and said he would send it. I was worried that I would never see it again, but it came in the mail.

Glad you had no problems!
I was sure to keep my cool because I'm sure we will want to deal with redtrailer again being that they're so close to us but it was real disapointing what we went thru!

I finally gave up trying to order a 5 X 8, really wanted a 5 X 10, so I wound up surfing the web till I found a local trailer manufacturer. Total bill will be around $600.

That's a good price, did you find it on the web and do they ship out of state?
