Magilla,
I looked up the coupler and shortened the tongue. Have a look at this pdf.

http://ftp.pwp.att.net/j/c/jcfetterly/misc/magilla%2002.pdf

Let me know what you want changed. It is all 50x50 except the tongue which is 75x50. Looks like you used lighter material for some crossmembers on your offroad tear. I can change them easily or change the spacing. Rainy weekend here, good time to do it

Thanks Carter, but I couldnt get the pic to down load.
Yes some of the steel in the off roader was 25x25 crossmembers, 75X50 sides and 100X50 A frame, but the floor timber was also 18mm ply..........that could have been overkill

Mark that is a great site, well done.
One line in your chassis page concerned me a bit though

" a hitch receiver on the back of the frame (easy place to attach a wench or pull the trailer backwards if necessary. "

Are you going to attach senior management to the hitch receiver?

Magilla,
I had to look up schmicko. Not an everyday term here. I could have gone up front and asked one of our Aussie big-wigs I guess but I know my place. I see you have already contracted a frame by your other thread. If you need any other CAD work please let me know. Happy to do it on rainy summer days

Chassis Plan

Postby mezmo » Wed May 05, 2010 1:17 am

Hey Magilla and Carter,

I'm curious what does " schmicko " mean?

I googled 'Australian slang' but had no luck finding
it out. I'm assuming It's a complimentary term
from the context.

And;

Magilla, I really like the design and execution of your
first tear, a great straightforward original profile design I think.
As classic to my eye as the any of the "standards" we all
know about.

And;

Carter, Your TTT standy really sets a mark to shoot for
in design and execution. Its' been a favorite of mine ever
since I first saw it after I discovered T&TTTs. I'm a big fan
of natural color birchwood finished interiors and your's on that is
unrivaled!

Mezmo, I agree Carter has done a wonderful job and he has provided me with a very nice CAD plan for my tear drop chassis, it i s greatly appreciated and a great reflection on the people that frequent the forum.

The Australian slang is a wonderful thing, words that have no reason for being can be used in a conversation and mean something......don't ask me how it works but it does..........beauty.

Now as for Schmicko, it can also be substituted for the following words.
Rippa, Beauty, Bonza (but this is old school and not used much now days), corka (also old school). Noice (nice, bit of a play on the pronunciation). Pearla (reference to the value of a pearl I guess).

So basically it means "very good indeed"

Also thanks for your comments on my first project, I am very proud of it , and most people I have met think its pretty "orright" (all right), this is something usually discussed around the bush television (camp fire) while "knocking the top off a few frothies" (Beers) at the end of the day.

Magilla and Mezmo

Thanks for the comments, the trailer has been fun. I wish there would have been a forum like this when I built it 2002-2004. I would have done some things differently. The birch interior was a breeze. Home Depot 1/4" birch ply, maple hardwood for the door frames, Natural stain, and polyurethane finish shot with a Wagner airless sprayer.

Magilla,
I marvel at your off road build. I have a standy in the tube with almost the same profile. As an ex-metal model maker I am always thinking of a steel framed trailer. I think I saw a thread where you bent the curved bits by hand. I've bent automotive prototype moldings in brass with a hardwood U shaped block and a leather faced hammer. I don't believe that shaping a 1"square 16 gauge tube would be much more difficult. Just have to get up the energy to get started

Looking forward to watching your build

Carter,
I actually had an engineer bend it for me, cause I did not think I could get both bits the same. Slack I know but It was worth the effort.

Gus,
I actually dont realise how much slang I use till I start waffling on when I am on a forum.

Slang

"There you go again"!

If you don't understand "There you go again" this will clear it up:

Here in the USA "to waffle" means to be indecisive.

http://onlineslangdictionary.com/definition+of/waffle

IMHO here in the USA we use short phrases a lot!

A particularly thrilling experience is an "E-Ticket Ride":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_ticket

In the Beach Boyz song "Little Duece Coop" they refer to "One more thing I got the PINK SLIP daddy":

In California the "pink slip" is the certificate of title for a motor vehicle. If you have a loan the bank physically has possession of the "pink slip". If you own the car free and clear YOU have the pink slip. What the Beach Boys are saying is that they own the car free and clear (no loans).

There you have it, again, "The world according to Gus".

Cheers,

Gus

Ha ha Gus "waffling on" here means to talk endlessly about............stuff.

Here I go again.
"bugger"
which can be used like this.

Bugger=Oh dear.
Bugger me=oh my/oh really/I have no idea (and thats all it means too)
Funny bugger=funny bloke/person (bloke=person usually male but sometimes female)
Funny bugger=not a funny bloke/person (but you have to work out how it is being used in a sentence either by context or tone)
Buggers=a group of people, funny or not
Its/thats buggered=its broken
I'm buggered=oh i am tired
Buggered up=broken/destroyed
Bugger it=I am over it.....or lets do it

ie

The other day I decided "bugger it" I am going to build a new camper, then the post man came and when I read my bills I said "bugger me" thats certainly an expensive month. It did not help that some "funny bugger" charged me a au$1100.00 to service my ute (pick up/suv) and the rotten "buggers" at my personal insurance company also sent me a hefty bill. So now that I have that to contend with over the next month or so the plans to build the camper have been "buggered up".
So "bugger it" I am going for a drink (Cans, frothies, stubbies or a pot...... beer ) with a few mates at the pub (club/bar/ale house)
