Boat trailer

Postby officersdr » Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:56 pm

Has anyone used a boat trailer for their trailer?? On the coast I have many boat trailers to choose from for cheaper then a old RV.

I need a trailer over 16ft for my grasshopper on steroids. Would 2x4's doubled up over the "A" frame part of the trailer be strong enough to support the front of the trailer??

If anyone has a trailer built on these trailer I would love to see your build pics.......Haven't found any through the search yet.

Thanks I liked that......I wonder is I could use doubled up 2x4's as a cross brace at the front of the trailer instead of doing any welding??

The Dog used a 1970 Dilly boat trailer.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

If you were to sleep head to the galley wall the bulk of your body weight would be on the frame and the limited weight of a front cabinet and your legs would offer little load on the wood only frame. I would make the floor a torsion box with a top and bottom ply with a 2x4 frame with a couple center joists and there would be no need to reinforce the frame with steel.

of course "other opinions will vary "

I would have bunk beds over the "A" frame part of the trailer so there would be about 200lbs over the overhang

I used an old catamaran trailer for my first build. I unbolted the arms that made it wide enough to carry a cat and shortened the tongue by 4 feet and was left with a nice galvanized trailer.

Before ever being introduced to tears and putting the camper on the trailer I had a flat bed on it for transporting stuff. The flat bed was built similar to the floor system in a house only with 2x4s. It was far more than I needed for a tear but it worked.

The floor was originally over the wheels (little wheels) so to create a lower appearance I added a skirt. Finally after the first trip I changed the axle to something cooler.
