Can't Wait to Get Started!!!

Postby SIXTOTWO » Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:43 pm

Hello! Introducing ourselves (obeying orders, ha).
We are a couple who has been married for 21 years now and have tented for the same amount of years(well, sometimes we would stay in a leanto if the park had those. We have six children ages 20 down to 3. We are sooo ready to camp WITHOUT kiddo's!!! So now's our chance! We've had the fever for about 2 years now and have finally started to put it into motion by purchasing our base trailer. We are sooo excited to get started!! So happy to find a forum and can't wait to chat with you all!
TD is all we can think about!!! :applause:

Welcome aboard, Terry and Susan. First you must make a list of all of the things about tent-camping, while it is still fresh in your mind, as you may want to review it later, once the teardrop is a reality.

Let's see, first you scrape away the rocks from below the tent floor, drive in the required tent stakes, erect the tent, with proper ropes to prevent it from being blown away. Then you sweep out the leaves and spiders, and attend to the blow-up-the-mattress chore, carry all of the stuff from the car and stack it somewhere within the tent. Now comes the fun part, you may be sleeping on the ground and finding a few rocks that still remain, and the always present danger of creepy-crawlers entering your canvas home as the unexpected rain shower soaks your sleeping bags at 2 AM.

These events will be but a distant memory when you find that in a teardrop, your bed is always made and up off of the ground in the insect-free interior. Dropping off to sleep will be so peaceful, knowing that your kitchen and all of the goodies are being protected within the enclosed gallery, away from varmints and any hungry bears that may be nearby.

An early morning cup of coffee and bacon and eggs breakfast is just the thing to encourage your fellow campers to stroll by and admire the cute little camping trailer of your own creation. (Do you really sleep in there?)

Glad you found us, ask any questions you need answers to and take plenty of pics during the construction effort. Good luck on your build.

:applause: Roly.........Now, what size will it be, what shape, planned galley layout and exterior covering is being considered?

Roly, OMG were you on our camping trips with us or what??? Couldn't have been because we didn't get any help from you settin' up and tearin' down, oh and not to mention dryan' out!!! One time, in Gettysburg, THE RIVER RAN THRU IT!!!
Anyhoo, thanks for that, those are memories that will not be forgotten by us or our six kiddo's! It's what we could afford! ha

Our trailer is a 5x10. We'll use the traditional TD shape (Terry wants a square door, it's easier he says, but we'll see about that!! We have a chuk box that we used for camping that we want to lay out and see what kind of space we need to have for the galley. Some stuff I'm sure we can leave out of the TD.

This was actually supposed to be a Sr. project for our now graduated son but he couldn't get to it, :? , so now it will be a "in your spare time, Son" project. Although I'm sure we will be pushing him or doing it ourselves while he's at work. We have the "fever" more than he does. I'm looking for it to be done completely by spring!!!!!! :worship:

I plan on asking questions on here to get some answers for our many questions but that will come later as we have a glitch with the hubs on the trailer. Oh well, in due time!!!

Nice hearing from you! Thanks!
Susan

Thanks Mike,

Yup!!! It's ours, you're right! Drew keeps on trying to claim it back but he just doesn't have "the fever" He's actually beginning to wonder if he'll ever pick up a single tool. :R

Terry and Susan....you're about to embark on one of the most rewarding and fun family projects you can do. There are no hard and fast rules about your design ideas. Do what you want, but think things through. What you don't want to have happen is after it is all said and done...thinking "we should'a done this differently" But if that does happen...so what, there is always another tear that needs to be built!

When everyone wanders up and wants to check out your tear and they don't even notice the 6 figure motor home in the campground, somehow makes it all worth the efforts. Have fun! Doug
