Honestly, I Thought It Was Gas

Postby Tumbleweed_Tex » Tue May 25, 2010 1:42 pm

Hello all. I’m Reece.

Another newbie here, this time one with a confirmed diagnosis…it’s NOT gas… I have tearitis. The good part about THAT part is the prognosis…it’s curable…but only if I build…and SOON.

So, if I may, a few not-necessarily-related observations…

I’m a writer who lives on the Gulf Coast of Texas. This forum is awesomastic. I sometimes make up words as I go…and…I have one question already…

I know there have to be rules somewhere concerning the dreaming of, planning for, and sweat producing stages of building a T or TTT. At what point can I (officially?) say I have begun my build?

When I clean out a corner of the shop? Drive the first screw? Spend my first dollar? When I convince my wife it’s a great idea? When I choose a name to call her?

(the trailer, not the wife).

What’s the consensus about when I can say I’ve begun?

Welcome! I spent most of my teen years in Port Arthur. Where are you?

We are working on a possible gathering down at Crystal Beach in September. An active SC member is just finishing the rebuild of his house down there.

We have a few members in the Houston area.

CD,

Living in Buna, working in Pt. Neches.

I had just finished the Rita repairs when Ike came along. I can only imagine what it was like for those folks down on the beach.

Welcome aboard!

I "officially" began my build when I bought my trailer. I was dreaming and planning way before that but that was a good starting point for me. I think it's harder to define the "end" of a build than the beginning.

Well, Eddie didn't need to do any repairs after Ike... his house was completely gone. Nothing but a slab and some stilts.

They did a "Gathering-on-the-Slab" for Mardi Gras in 2009. The new house is going to be perfect for gatherings.

You should also try to attend LCG5 in October. It is our region's biggest and baddest gathering each year. It is at Lake Bisteneau near Shreveport.

Here is a list of gatherings. You don't need a TD to join us. A lot of folks come with tents at first and get ideas and then build.

Yeah, I'd put the start of my build at the point where I had a frame. That is the day I started my build thread...

Hey Reece,

Welcome from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC! Hmmm...Maybe it started when you registered and posted to the T&TTT forum...Or maybe when you first thought, "Gee, I bet I could build one of these..."

I think I agree with the consensus though, that my build officially started when I plunked down the $300 and brought the ultility trailer home on which to build.

Keep us posted as to your progress!

Ahh, Grasshopper, it is the humble opinion of the Mad One that to truly have an official beginning of a build on the forum you must post photographic proof of your accomplishment. A clearing in the corner of the shop, a wheel or two, perhaps an axle, a sketch. Almost anything will do, even a photo of the neighbors wife standing beside "his" utility trailer. 8)

I feel that the very start of knowing that you have begun building a teardrop, is kind of like being "a little bit pregnant", you can't go back and change your mind, because you are committed. Naw, cleaning out the corner of the garage doesn't count. You gotta spend some bucks, no matter how little, just so you can say you have gotten started.

As far as your getting some negative spousal comments, I've been there, done that. Now once she sees the wonderful, cute little trailer that you have built, her attitude with change, instantly.........especially if spent locked in your arms in your teardeop, that very first night. Good luck on your build, remember take pics and post 'em.
