Hey everyone! I'm Susan from Indianapolis. I love to camp and be outside, meet new people, and a good camp fire. This summer my hubby got a close up look at a home built tear drop. He now understood my infatuation and caught the bug, finally. Now I'm cleaning out the garage and tweaking the plans. Should start the tear down of the pop up on Jan 28. Then let the fun begin!

DESPERATELY SEEKING POP UP CONVERSIONISTS. This site is a God send. I'm seeking info on others who have made a rotted pop up into a hardside. Your experience and advice would be greatly appreciated.

History:
Grew up loving camping in the coffin cabin. Once I was on my own I was banished to a tent, years in a tent with my kids. Then I got a 25' gulf stream camper. After a couple years of trailer bliss it was back to the tent. Sigh.

Hobbies:
I'm creative, artsy type who makes things and sells them at events. I'm an avid caver, traveling often and far, camping primitively. For now I sleep in the back of my SUV with a couple of rubbermaid bins. I keep a shower bag on my roof rack and cat hole when needed. I hate set up and tear down. I hate messing with a tent.

A friend gave me their torn up pop up. For the past year it has sat in my drive with a tarp over it. I rebuilt an old pop up several years ago. But I want a hardside. So a 6' x 12' frame and accessories is waiting for me to make it into a TTT. That is if that size qualifies as a TTT. In May I plan on traveling to TAG for Caving Chick Fest 2011. I want my camper ready by then. Wish me luck.

Welcome to the Madness Shoobie, I'm just strait down the super slab from ya (fellow Hoosier). Good luck on your conversion. I tore apart an old trailer 5 yrs ago with no intention of building a TTT. Hind sights 20-20, I could have used a lot of the part I burned & scraped. Good luck getting into your garage, it got up to a balmy high of 19 degrees Saturday.

You will be checking in to the site on a daily basis, 'cause you have to get your "fix". This stuff is addictive!

Again, Good Luck with your build.

Welcome to both of you newbies !

We Hoosiers are very fortunate to have a very active and well organized tearjerker chapter. We have 4 organized gatherings a year. This summer we will help our neighboring Tearjerker chapters to host a national gathering in Spencer IN at McCormic Creek State park. This is a DO NOT MISS event. Where else are you going to see close to 100 tiny trailers and get to visit with 250 - 300 of the friendliest folks in the world? Drop down to the midwest section and visit some of the past gathering threads for great pictures and comments on all the past gatherings and new news about the ones coming up.

Thanks everyone for making us feel welcome and the offer to help. It is appreciated, and needed. The planning is overwhelming. I have been lurking and reading since this summer.

The biggest obstacle is that Bob and I disagree on what we want, especially when it comes to the kitchen. Although I love a TD I think a TTT would be more practical. We'll see where it goes very soon.

Went outside and remeasured things today. Way too cold! Looking forward to more snow tomorrow. I'm wandering why I thought winter would be the best time to do this project?! At least I have an attached and heated garage. Well, back to the plans.

Susan
I will reinforce the urging to come to a Tearjerkers event and join.
Depending on which design you use you might prefer the rear galley. They are as simple or complex/complete as you wish and the prospect of the smell from cooking inside in a small place lingering...
Our Grasshopper design has a sink with running hot and cold water and a three burner cook top. The cabinetry is designed by my wife.

inclement weather just put up the first up sides and you have a 100 sq ft "kitchen" neither snow....

This night we had torrential rains and we were cooking and serving as usual just tossed up the side curtains.

A $90.00 investment in a pop up adds 100 square foot to the trailer build and will be the best money you ever spend in my opinion.

We cook and truely enjoy cooking! In our album you will find giant loves of hot bread , meatloaves, breakfast cassarolles and other goodies. We don't do hamburgers and hot dogs.

I've been using a 12' EZup for about a decade. I just lost #5 a couple months ago. I have sides, screens, bags.... Please no more EZups. Although I doubt I'll be able to avoid it. Putting up the EZup by myself is the hardest part of my set up. I'm not sure what that says about me. I guess I'd just rather spend my time playing than working on setting up and tearing down.

Bob and I are planning on heading up to Mounds on Saturday to meet everyone, peek around, ask questions, and listen to all the advice I can get.

Is anyone going to the RV show at the fair grounds? I know it's lame, but it gets me excited to see all the new ideas. We're going on Monday.

I put a pic for my avatar, but it hasn't shown up. Great, more reading so I can figure it out.

I rebuilt a 1970 pop up. I repaired/rebuilt the interior of our 23FB Gulf Stream. I miss my camper. Now I have this 1994 Viking pop up that has the usual damage, but new tires. Lucky me got it for free. It might be wiser to just replace the lift system, but I want something that fits my needs. That's not a pop up. So I'm off to work the the design some more. I have so many questions. More reading, although I think I've read it all! Just going back through the site looking for some specifics.

And the snow has finally let up here. It's so beautiful out. :snow

Looking forward to meeting you and Bob Saturday at Mounds. Wife and I hope to arrive noonish and enjoy the food and our camping friends. Snow has relented and the roads are clearing up a bit, Forcast is only 20 - 30 % chance of snow for the weekend so things are good to go.

Ya gotta tie those EZ-UPs down girl they fly well but land terrible. We are on our 4th year and 16th or 17th campout with the same 10 x 10 ez up.

First off, welcome! This is a great place.

I'm mostly through a TTT build on a pop-up frame. At 7x12 I'm a little larger (and a little more built up) than most builders seem to want, but it may help with some ideas. http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=37391
