n00b, plaing with google sketchup

Hey,
I allow my mind to wander a lot... My latest tangent has been dreaming about road trippin'

I'm thinking about getting a VW TDI of one model of another, and towing a small trailer around North America.

I like the Airstream Basecamp design, and would like to shrink it down, miniaturize it. Researching, I also ran into the Camp-Inn 560, that also appeals to me.

I actually have very little experience in building anything like this. I more into computers and electronics, but the similarities in the tinkering, modification and design mentality run in parallel.

Being a computer guy, I easily dove into Google Sketchup and started putting my ideas into it.

Anyway, I thought I would share. Anyone know of any similar designs?

Thanks for the wonderful resources here at T&TT!

I tried Google Sketchup. And then I was motivated to find a pencil sharpener.

The Basecamp was/is a neat concept.

Good luck!

You want to look carefully at Arne's Aero-1 build thread and web pages, as his design has the curving sidewalls that yours has.

Curving the sidewalls and the roof at the same place means that the joints on either end of the roof spars become compound mitres. This looks easy if you have a compound mitre saw, but how do you work out the two angles? This isn't too hard, but you need to have a plan for how you will do it.

Sensibly, you've left the door in the parallel sectino of the body. You could taper the rear end of the body if you wanted to make a really aerodynamic trailer, as it would make V-berths, like in many boats.
