Hello from Manila

Postby Louie » Mon Oct 11, 2010 8:45 am

Hello from Manila, Philippines. This is a great Teardrop and Tiny Travel Trailer site you guys have. There's so much information available and it looks like everyone here really enjoys using and/or building their Teardrops.

I have been looking at Teardrop Trailers for some time and it was only recently that I actually checked out your wonderful website. I like building things with my hands so I thought that it would be neat to build myself a cute Teardrop. I have been working on a 12ft plywood sailboat and learned some carpentry skills along the way. It's not quite done yet as I only get to work on it during my free time.

After looking at many TD internet sites, I invested in the Kuffel Creek Plans and the Big Woody Campers Plans to learn more about the process of building a TD. At first I thought that the Kuffel Creek Plans were not very good, especially after getting hold of the Big Woody Camper plans but it is actually good to have too. The two sets of plans complement each other very well.

I hope to finish my sailboat in a months time so I can work on my first TD. I have a 4x8 EZ-Trailer (Red Trailer) which I purchased for my boat which I plan to use also for the TD. The Teardrop will have to be a bolt on - bolt off design so I can use the trailer for my boats or for the TD.

God bless!

Welcome to the madness Louie

Remember to post lots of Pic's when you get started

Your gonna have to get a few freinds to build their own also, so you can have your own chapter & gatherings, not the easiest location to drive by on a long weekend

Drop by the Tear Jerkers and introduce yourself....there is a link in the header above

Welcome to the forum. If you can build a boat, you can build one of these. I built mine with no actual plans. I used drawings from Andrew's site and made it up from there.

My dad is from Manila, my parents live near Bacolod City part time and in Florida the rest of the time. It would be cool to get the teardrop movement going there.

Thank you for the welcome Alffink and Asianflava.

There are some interested parties out here for TDs. I wouldn't be surprised if someone had already built one. The same thing happened re: wooden boats. It turned out that many people were interested in building their own boats and many in fact had already built quite a number of boats. We all found out when we came across the Philippine Home Boatbuilders Yacht Club website. You can check out the site at www.pinoyboats.org

Asianflava, you should build one in Bacolod to start the ball rolling there. People are traveling a lot more now because of the RO-RO Boats (roll on - roll off ferry boats) that interconnect the Philippine islands. Some take the bus while others prefer to bring their own cars. The TDs would certainly open up more vacation possibilities especially when exploring the beautiful beaches around the country.

I hope I can start building soon so I can generate interest in TDs here in Manila. Thanks again. :)

Hey Louie,

Welcome to the forum...

Yep, you need to take the lead and get the folks in Manila interested in Teardrops!

Remember to take pictures, and let us know if you have any questions.

Welcome to the world of teardrops!

I would think that a teardrop would be perfect for the Philippines with those RO-RO boats. Small, lightweight campers you can take anywhere. All those islands -- all those possibilities.

Look through the Build Threads section, and find a TD that works for you.

I'm sure Mike will be glad to start a South Pacific section on the forum once your get the ball rolling.

Teardrop Camping is taking over the world!
