How about this 15 Gal/12V Garden Sprayer for a water tank?

I used one for a few years in a cabin that I had some years ago it was a different brand but it was a spot sprayer. It worked good and with the large opening it was even easy to clean out. I looked up what it was made of when I questioned the safety of this and found that it was made of the same material as potable water containers so I went for it. The only reason I did not use one on my ct was I put the tank under the floor which saves space but not good for cold weather use. If I was to do it again I would use one.

Wow!!

hankaye - thanks for doing all that legwork! That's impressive and good to know. I was about to go in a different direction. I was intrigued by the aquatainers someone posted, but that 15 gal capacity and large lid sure looked like something handy in addition to the pressure-operated system.

I'm pretty much already a mutant, so between your research and Paul's firsthand experience, I might just give it a go.

I used to work in a Teflon tubing factory back in the '60's, the lowest grade of tubing that was made was Medical ... the big customer was Gelco
Div. of Johnson & Johnson and they'd make catheters and shunts from the tubing. Everything else was made to the same standard but was not
declared to be "Safe" for liability reasons. So, instead of seeing that it was a "Sprayer" and discounting it due to that alone, I just followed the trail
back to the maker and see what they were made of and if the rest of their line made from the same material at the same factory ...
Besides My third eye helps with the typing with my 17 fingers, driving Haz-Waste around for several years is responsible for my condition...

As to the size, the box is 35Wx16Dx14.5H. There wasn't a good way to peek inside (ie. it was a sealed box).

That's 31 gallons so ultimately about half that volume. If it's 32" long and roughly round, it would be about 10-11 inches around.

The caulk and tape are for scale.

D'oh!

That's one of those things I guess I just missed - I looked all over - even downloaded the pdf manual. The kind of thing you look right at so many times you quit seeing it, I suppose.

Is the water pump safe for potable water? Not all pumps are sealed the same.

I bought mine today.

Despite positive reports from both the manufacturer and a user, I'm going to alternate bleaching it and leaving it out in the sun for a couple weeks, and then have the water tested by the county.

It's got a nice long power lead that detaches at a connector by the pump and has terminal clips on the end, so it will be easy to test flow rate (hopefully tomorrow). There are brass screw inserts on the bottom and one side to fabricate mounting.

khigh, Howdy;

Recommended ratio for the bleach is 1 oz. per 10 gal. let sit for 24 hours. This includes the plumbing
the water will pass through. So, fill it up, run some water till it comes out the sprayer or whatever you
intend to use, top off tank and let it sit for 24 hours, Then drain (your choice of methods), and fill with
fresh water, run system till no bleach smell can be detected at sprayer or whatever ... presto good to go!
I wouldn't trust the hoses that come with it, but would recommend this
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.a ... &catid=736 that you can get at most hardware
stores.
The flow rate should be on the info tag on the pump itself along with the pressure.

Although these jugs are not a true one for one substitute for the 12V Garden Sprayer, if anyone is considering using the Coleman Blue 5 Gal containers to hold potable water, Coleman says it is ok.

I ordered two of these from Amazon: Image
http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Water-Car ... water+jugs

No where on the jug does it say that it is ok for potable water so I sent Coleman a note. Here is their reply.

Thank you for contacting Coleman. I would be more than happy to assist you today.

BPA is a chemical in some polycarbonate bottles and utensils. Although a few of Coleman products contain BPA, none of Coleman's insulated coolers or jugs contain polycarbonate or BPA.

All of the materials used in Coleman Coolers and Jugs are approved for food contact.
Our coolers are produced from materials that are approved for food contact. That is not the same as saying the cooler is FDA approved. We do not have any certificate from the FDA. We do have a letter from our material supplier that says the raw material is acceptable to be used in food contact applications.

On another note, our coolers are intended for recreation purposes and are not specifically designed for commercial applications like a restaurant.

If you need further information, please visit us online at http://www.coleman.com.

Thank you,
(Rep. From Coleman)
Bob

I use something very similar to this setup in my 28' race car trailer with living quarters. I have a 35gal Agricultural sprayer tank that sits in the back of my truck. I have a 12 volt RV pump mounted on the tongue of the trailer that supplies my sink and my shower. I just use it to wash face and hands, brush teeth and shower but I don't use that water to cook with or make coffee with. All I do is wash it out with a cap full of bleach just before I get ready to go off for a weekend race and it works great!!

I guess I don't understand the premise. A real water tank and pump designed for RV's or even Aquatainers is about the same cost as a yard sprayer.
