A 12 ft. FEATHERLITE conversion

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Postby Prem » Thu Sep 03, 2009 6:09 pm

hunter,

Like Tyvek on the bottom of Forest River trailers?

Here's a new idea I had: Cut the foam tight for each slot under trailer. Cover with RhinoLiner painted on a table. Get under trailer and glue in place (upper surface and edges). Caulk. Run 1" wide aluminum strips down the center of each insulation panel and rivet to aluminum floor joists.

What do you think?

Prem,
I have never used Rhinoliner or anything like that yet. If I understand correctly, that stuff adheres really well? That just may work! :)
I plan on using a similar product (Herculiner) on the bed of my truck when time and $ allows.

Another product that adheres really good to stuff is Ice and Water shield. This is a product that roofers use on the first 3 feet or so of a roof under the shingles. Once this stuff sticks, it is stuck. Completely waterproof!
Comes in 3' wide rolls, not sure the length, possibly 50'? Might be able to install the insulation exactly like you said "tight fit, glue, caulk" and then install this ice and water shield overlapping on itself to create a water tight joint. Install strips of aluminum with rivets just like you said to help secure everything.

The Ice and Water Shield can be a little pricey though! $>

hunter,

Ouu! Ouu! :dancing Must check out this Water and Ice sheeting stuff asap!

Thanks for the tip. Will let you know.

Prem

P.S. An exec at Featherlite just sent me two free ball caps for emailing him photos of my conversion. Too cool. He really liked the photos. :eyebrows:

Hello Prem,

Sorry but curiosity has got the better of me. What is on the tray that you are holding?
I have been trying to figure out what they are!

LOL! They are worth the big bucks exported to Japan. We saute them in butter in a frying pan and eat them with steak. Morel mushrooms. Very tasty and hard to find in the wild. They grow in the forests around here from the low elevations in February to mountains in early July. This photo was taken by my daughter in early July this year.

Prem :ok:

Prem,

Thanks for satisfying my curiousity. :applause:

Morels are definitly one of the best shrooms to eat. I have been looking into growing and harvesting mushrooms in the backyard. Haven't started yet but hope to in the next year or so.

By the way, I like the "stealthy cargo article". Thanks!

We had a teardrop gathering out at the lake where I was camped out off and on for over a month. 20 teardrops, a Vardo and a cargo conversion. The concessionaire, Glenn, liked my cargo trailer and is going to order an all aluminum 14-footer with RV windows, extra height, RV door and bare walls for his own conversion. (I gave him one of the two Featherlite baseball caps that the exec. sent me.) The trailer will be ready for next year at the lake to rent for overnight accommodations.

The good idea spreads.

Prem
