Prem,
I have never used Rhinoliner or anything like that yet. If I understand correctly, that stuff adheres really well? That just may work!
I plan on using a similar product (Herculiner) on the bed of my truck when time and $ allows.
Another product that adheres really good to stuff is Ice and Water shield. This is a product that roofers use on the first 3 feet or so of a roof under the shingles. Once this stuff sticks, it is stuck. Completely waterproof!
Comes in 3' wide rolls, not sure the length, possibly 50'? Might be able to install the insulation exactly like you said "tight fit, glue, caulk" and then install this ice and water shield overlapping on itself to create a water tight joint. Install strips of aluminum with rivets just like you said to help secure everything.
The Ice and Water Shield can be a little pricey though!
