the flooring looks good Don, where'd you get it from? Yeah I know about the heat, even with my squirrel cage blower running WAO it was still hot. I came close to building a redneck AC just to cool the air down some but chose to take more breaks instead. Headed out before daylight to the hunting land in the morning for a cleanup day. We're starting early to try and beat the heat. Hope to be done by 12:00 at the latest.

Martin, Thanks. I got the flooring from Home Depot online and had it delivered to the house.

Yes, with the floor and ceiling in I start framing. The first thing going in is the AC! Then I can close the door and finish in comfort. The fridge goes in below the AC, so I will have cold water and AC while I work!

flboy, Howdy;

Just a thought, ... won't the heat from the fridge confuse the A/C's thermostat?

I wouldn't think so. They will be isolated from eachother. The fridge will vent on the side up near the top and draw from the bottom. I am not sure where the AC thermocouple is, but is suspect it would be on the intake somewhere. Thanks for mentioning that.. I will make sure of where it is at.

Flooring

Postby CaptD » Sun Jun 26, 2016 11:33 am

I'm looking at that type of flooring for my build as well. Available in coin and diamond finish. Costco has similar roll out flooring as HD online. Its heavy but seems durable and should be easy to cut with a utility knife. The dirt is gonna be hard to sweep out with the raised pattern but a small blower would work ok. Don please give us the wet traction test - that is wet ramp and wet knobbies - while riding up and while walking back down the ramp. Please wear good traction shoes!! No flip flops!! Don't want to hear about you rolling down the ramp with your KTM. Maybe try out your wet shoes/boots for traction before moving the bike. I like the light grey color and the only things holding me back from buying are not knowing how slippery the flooring might be and the weight. I'm trying to keep my all aluminum framed trailer light as I'll be full timing in it. Been riding with DDS since 2007. I was going to buy a 2017 KTM 200 2 stoke but they stopped making them so looking at the 350 dual sport now. CaptD.

Right now I have the trailer backed up against the house working on it, so it would be hard to get the KTM in. The diamond plate has a better feel for traction; however, this is still a hard rubber, so I don't know how well with will be with wet knobbies. First chance I get I'll check it out. With the shoes it is fine.

Flooring a ceiling in (to be trimmed out later) and next up, framing begins. First priority is to get the AC installed! :)

Looks good. I'm jealous. I can't wait till mine gets to that point so I can pause for awhile. I have other stuff to do but I am very one track minded. I am driving my family nuts with my ocd.

Your floor looks really nice, plus it should contain any spills. Seems like accidents happen when hauling bikes. :(

Thanks... I know what you mean! I want to get mine done and still have a lot of work to do which I can only do on the weekends mostly. Can you believe my family actually wants me to spend some time with them!! :) :)

I had a goal of being done by the end of July... It's not looking good for that. But I should be done for some good late summer or early fall camping!

Cindy, thanks. It should contain spills and drips. It will be hard to sweep however with that raised pattern. I may get a real cheap electric blower as someone suggested. I can just open the ramp door and blow it all out. :-) I hope it holds up. We'll see.

As is start my framing this week, I know I do not want to use 2x4's for the framing due to size and wieght. I was thinking about using my table saw to rip them down the middle and get two studs out of the one 2×4. Is this a bad idea? I think 2x4's would be overkill and I don't need the walls 3.5 inches thick plus paneling.

l would use the same for framing up the cabinets.

Thoughts?

I think it is a good idea if you can control the tendency for lower cost 2 x 4's cut in one half to warp or twist.

Old friend of mine many years ago, cut 2x4 in half, used old cans of spray paint, light coat. Prevents wood from warping when we built my 6x12 standy all from scratch. Worked great, never warped. Something to think about.
