Looks like a better deal then the Champion 1500 I bought this fall at $199 because it is 2000 W, propane and Wal-Mart has them for $249.

But both this one and my Champion were too loud for me at 65db. Jerry, are you ok with the noise level?

OTT
I know your are the rocket scientist here and have proven time and time again how briliant your work is.
I read your article in your link and it says they can produce artifical snow up to 40 degree outside temperature if conditions are perfect. Hell I can beat that I can produce ice cubes up to above a hundred degrees in my little ice maker and dont even need 5 million plus worth of equipment to do it.
Even you will have to admit we were talking about a naturally ocurring event that didnt have refrigeration equipment involved.

12 hours at 50% load on a 20lb tank! You are gonna go broke running this thing! My EU2000 burns 5 quarts a day. I plug it into a 3 gallon boat tank then I can top the external tank off without shutting the generator off. Sometimes the only time I will shut down for an entire week is to do an oil change, and that takes less than ten minutes.

Guess I missed that point about the 1/2 tank consumption and I was only pointing out a lower price for that particular unit. I think there is merit in propane if the cost is justified. It means one less fuel to carry with you.

I used the Champion 1200 unit at a hunt camp last fall and while I did not keep records, my recollection says I got about 6-8 hours out of a 1.2 gal tank. At $3.25/gal (East Coast cost) we used about $3.90 worth of regular gas. For 12 hours (to compare it with the Bass Pro unit) the estimated gas cost can be extrapolated to about $5.85. For the propane at 12 hours for 1/2 20 gal tank which cost about $20 here in the east to refill, the cost premium for fuel is therefore about $10.00

That means for me the propane unit would be a little less then twice the cost to run over my Champion. But I for one am not going to keep it. The EU2000i or larger is on my buy wish list. And they do make propane converter kits for the Honda, but they run about $300 (from my quick search today).

And one cannot forget the cost of the generator itself. If one only used it irregularly, did not care about the loudness, the $250 for a unit which uses about $5 minimum more on each fill up might make sense. They can burn $750 more in propane for many years before the payback makes sense.

Now to compare the Honda to the Champion, that is another story.

Here is another option. Lots cheaper but it will require you attaching it to the hose. Says its good down to -40.

Million thanks     for your confidence in my brilliant work & education, but I only have a humble HS diploma,
so I don't consider myself really special - living in a simple cargo trailer & across from my Trashy in foreclosure Neighbors
but still with my little finger I can determine when something freezes at 37 deg inside my trailers metal roof. Believe it or not
NOW - My son in law has 5 degrees 2 of with are a masters and PHD in Astrophysics...besides he is only 26 - thats like a rocket scientist for sure
Now he could explain it better - but might certainly charge you a grand or two for a detailed scientific explanation.
like the weight of a black hole 500 million light years away from earth

I'll only keep my observations to what my experiences have been with both methods of keeping the water hose from freezing.
I live in an RV and have survived several winters in Central Utah where the temps. do drop to -40*F and stick in the single
digits for prolonged periods of time.
Pirit (pronounced Pirate arrrggggg), Worked fine till the temp came back up to above 50*F then separated at the ends. As
the wiring is integeral there is NO splicing or repairs that can be done with them. ,

I have been using one (1), EasyHeat heat tape for the past 4 years. snug it into some of the pre-made neoprene hose insulation
that looks like pool noodles, tape the sections together, plug it in ... done. Unplug when not needed ... , ,
I tend to get the neoprene insulation that fits loose so it doesn't cook the hose, but a regular RV water hose CAN be repaired (extra +++'s).

but the biggest change is this time we included metal 1 1/2 studs because they glue and screw the plywood which per the dealer make the plywood almost impossible to remove without totally destroying it and leaving crap on the wood studs. Now if I do not want screwless, they can put the plywood on the outside. When I call tomorrow, I will fight this, but I do not think I will win.

This brings me to my question. Did you have a problem removing the plywood from your interior, or did you have it added to the outside? I did not ask for the plywood on the outside because I like the screwless idea though.

Bob

Hi bob

I always have problems with PM .... Retared I guess.....

I'm all confused , I have a screw less exterior with the plywood on the exterior , I also have 2 x 3" wood studs layed sideways
So I have a 2.5" nailing surface and 1.5" insulation space, over that I installed another 1.5" blue board , 3/8" plywood into the studs & another 1/8" oak or beach , overall my walls are 4" thick. I WOULD NEVER GET METAL STUDS , WOOD IS FANTASTIC - mine really keeps condensation down 95% vs. the metal Lark trailer.

So you are telling me just the opposite , I pretty sure they can do screw or screw less exterior , with exterior glued plywood.
I think your salesman may be new to the job. :frightened:

Hope this helps !!

Newbie here. Great forum. First thanks for posting your awesome build. :applause: Inspirational.

Sorry if this has been discussed previously, but I'm trying to get an idea on how these trailers tow. How does your Tundra handle your 7x16? I have an identical truck and want a similar CT. I'll be towing it 300 miles a week for work travel. I'm wondering if I should go with a smaller size or is 7x16 no problem?

Thanks

Mike
