We decided that we could survive just fine with a 2000 watt generator and have been looking around at prices-I thought the best was around 600 and then I found this on Amazon

I like the Honda 2000 because they have a extended run gas tank that holds 6 gallons of gas and it will run for days without having to shut it off.
I run mine in the summer to run a 8000 btu window AC and I never shut it off,you can add more gas to the tank without shutting the generator off.
They can also run on propane and hook them together for 4000 watts.
they cost more but I think they hold there value and will have no problem selling it, I watched enough of them on ebay sell at a good price.

I almost bought one, they are pretty quiet , but not as quiet as the Honda 2000.
BTW jwhite the Honda 2000 is rated at 1600 max long term running load. 2,000 max load.
It's the same with the champion

I just got the Honda - but if you will only use it every now and then the Champion should be fine.
If you run it day & night then get the Honda.
Both can be converted to also run on Nat gas or propane for a few hundred $$$$

Good luck !!

Thanks-the price was just so odd, there are at least 3 models of the Champion 2000 53dB and the price varied as much as 200 between them, so of course the one we chose was the least expensive. We are camping in Maine this summer and the state parks don't have electricity, so we will use it in the evening to charge our electronics, and cook a little. We probably won't run it more than 3-4 hours a day. We will be without electricity for about 3 weeks or so throughout the summer.
Just curious, anyone know any free camping in the Aroostook area of Maine? I haven't reserved the campground there yet.

I have that very Champion generator and it is perfect. There is a huge thread on them at Woodalls

Good to hear! Thanks, it should be here in a few days, then we will test it out. I will post pics on our trailer build thread when it arrives, we have done a couple of things to the trailer so it won't hurt to update that thread ;)

I just could not justify the cost of the Honda for the few times I need it. Mostly I plan to use parks that have power.
I bought a used Generac 2000 which can run at 2000 and surge 2200. It is not as quite as the Honda but you can find these at about $540 new. I paid $400 and it was very close to new.

I am happy with it.

I've tried a few small generators and finally just bought the Honda EU2000i. I got the best deal I could find on http://www.electricgeneratordepot.com. $899.99 delivered. No tax or shipping. I started it up today... wow this is quiet.. I turned on a 1500W heatgun and the voltage never dropped. I can't wait to try it out while camping. I bought another gas cap on Amazon and I have an old 6 gallon outboard boat motor gas tank. I am going to make the extended run gas tank.

I was really struggling whether to buy the Champion or the Hyundia as both were a few hundred less.. but the Honda's have such a great reputation and are just reliable long term. I plan to have ot for a while. Time will tell if the extra $300 - $350 Honda premium was worth it. I like the fact there is a 3 yr warranty.

I work at a university in IT. We install our outside fiber optic cable and use the Honda 2000 to run the pump to pull water out of vaults or the blower to ventilate vaults when entering them. Our Honda has been going for 11 years with no problems. Nice and quiet so Faculty don't complain when using near a classroom with open windows.

I camp where air conditioning isn't needed so solar power meets my camping and astronomy needs. I like not having to deal with generator or gas and the solar keeps my batteries topped off. If you need air conditioning or a microwave and you aren't at a campground with power, the quiet generator is the way to go. I think it is just good manners not to buy a cheap noisy generator and run it for hours near other campers. Most people are just too polite to complain, but everyone enjoys the quiet once they are turned off.

Good point on the noise. That was one of my biggest concerns. I know the old generator was noisy and even though I could place it away from me, I was concerned about the overall impact.
