I messed up

Postby hangout » Wed Oct 21, 2015 2:42 pm

I screwed up my trailer. About a month ago my roof was leaking and we were expecting more rain as I had furniture inside the trailer I went to re caulk. Well the only thing I had on hand was done black caulk I started late and finished at night. Next morning there were drips from the caulk absorbing humidity. What can I use to get this off.

Try some mineral spirits in a spot where it won't show much. Sometimes that will work to remove caulk mistakes.

Sorry, on my desktop it doesn't show. But on phone it does! Or goof off.

I learned the hard way about cleaning painted aluminum about oxidization. After "cleaning" it looked worse with lots of streak. I thought I ruined the paint. People were recommending Meguiars Ultimate Compound. I used that and it worked great highly recommend. Not saying it will take off the caulk, but you could try since you'll probably need to use it anyways after getting the caulk off.

black caulk
Latex? Polyester? Silicone? Roofing tar?

The first thing you need to figure out is what the company that makes the caulk suggests to use. It almost sounds like a latex since the humidity affected it.

Hopefully something will clean it up. I know with silicone, acetone is recommended but that'll probably cut your paint.

As they say, first test in a inconspicuous spot.

Sound dumb but try WD40 as it won't harm the paint. It works on glue that some stickers have.
