Grandparent's Scotty in the early/mid 60's

Postby john » Mon Aug 22, 2011 11:47 am

My Grandparent's, my Grandfather's sister, and a friend of his all bought Scottys to travel in.

While they were being built the company was changing over from bare aluminum to painted aluminum. They were given a choice between the two but only the fellow with the painted one got the call. The three Scottys were made at the same time and frequently traveled together.

The one with the black dot on the front is my Grandfather's. He had a wide car with flat tail-fins and in the process of making a particularly sharp turn poked a hole in the front of the tear. It happened during one of the group trips. He with his Scotty and the group with the other two Scottys swung by the Scotty factory. They dabbed something over the hole - no charge.

According to my Grandfather the President or who ever was in charge was overjoyed to see the caravan of Scottys doing what they were built to do.

Some of you might recognize the car with the flat fins in the photo...

Cool pictures....We have some like that from the 60's. No Trailers, we were tent campers but just the same it was a fun way to see the country.

My Grandfather sold his 15 years ago. I was probably the last one to use it before it was sold. I was in college at the time.

As for the bird, I don't know. But it was shot somewhere near Roswell New Mexico.
