Hell they may not want me in their town !

YOU probably warned them !

Typical local goverment she had the piece of property she described as on the north side of the road (it's on the south) and they assumed it was the one I was interested in (it wasn't). So at lunch I took pictures of the two parcels I was interested in and took time to edit them and place descriptions right in the picture showing all my "Neighbors" ! Parcel one has a bean field east ,a corn field north, a factory west and the new highway to my south. That makes it ag-1 or light industry 1 not residential 2 as she mistakenly described. This should make the zoning exception a little less of a jump. I went to parcel 2 my second choice and took the bean field to the west the corn field to the north and the 10 year old mobile home to the east and again the highway to the south. Maybe they can help me with zoning exceptions and if not maybe the almighty has a better plan for me that I am yet to be aware of.

If you look at the wood stove picture you will see it piped to a hand sink in the background behind the wood stove. I thought it to be ingenuious having it over the stove to warm it a bit.

Since it's warm water, I think I would also connect it to that ICE COLD stainless steel stool in the corner as well,..... Brrrrr :snow :poop:

Well it's Monday again and time for the Monday update.....

Was able to get 12 hours in this weekend

I finally learned how to get the purlins to fit.

Image

Yep Up to now I had measured and marked to install the purlin blocking. You haul them up and they didn't fit for one reason or another so This became my installation jig.

Image

I moved the puriln forward 1 1/2" and dropped the blocks in just ahead of each stud.

Image

as a final check I flipped it over and slide it into line with the wall studs and checked visually

Made a great place to work with no bending and no measuring

Image

Here is the ground floor view looking up between the plywood truss domes. I will screw thru both faces and draw the plywood tight to the cleats to install.

Image

Got 3 of the 6 done and was tired of the ladder so I moved on to windows and doors.

Image

This window will become a faux door

Image

and the baggage door is kinda installed needs stops trim and latch hardware

I also have 2 sides now completely sheathed.

I also have the rear observation deck entry door in but failed to get a picture.

Weather was great and I felt that I had gotten a lot done.

This is my 7th work weekend along with 5 short weekdays so I guess you can say about 15 to 16 working days. I'll just be happy when it's weathered in. :worship:

Well Saturday was another busy day. here is where we left off last week.

Image

Got the ex husband to help me deck the roof.
(Well he's married to ex wife #1 what would you call him)

Image

I was out early and installed the missing siding while waiting for my roofer helper

Image

The cupalo decking.

Image

Here is a stick my arm in the window and click shot (got lucky) showing the lower front roof inside and out over the tongue. Yep a little gap here and there but there will be 1" foam over lapping and then the rubber roofing so it is not a big concern. After all the plywood rips were "absolutely free" scrap waste drops from work. 17 1/4" wide by 8' long.

Image

Got all but 2 sheets of siding on ( the rear wall ) and the roof is about 1/3 decked. I was desperatly wanting the front and cupalo all rough decked but we ran out of construction screws and gave up about 1:30.
Sunday was dedicated to my more domestic chores in the house. Dirty clothes and empty fridge needed my attention !

You're making good progress and I, too, am glad you have some help, especially for the high stuff.

Re: Bob's caboose build

Postby bobhenry » Mon Aug 13, 2012 12:35 pm

Well the monday up date this week may be very disappointing. I only got in about 3 hours and my skinny roof rat helper was a no show. I got the last of the rear roof purlins constructed and tossed them on the roof. I chased them from one end to the other trying to get the seven mounting block inserted in between the domed plywood trusses and finally in a blind rage I simply gave up. So I took the weekend off and got as far away from the caboose as I could. Can you say "Road trip" !

The good news one yard sale netted me a dozen metal electrical boxes and a decent pair of slip joint pliers for $2.00. As I turned to leave I stumbled over 2 very nice never installed white wood mini blinds. They were just the right width for the rear door window and the front window (faux door) in the tongue side wall. Yep a whoppin' five bucks. So although off duty I was still lookin' and shoppin' with an eye for a bargain.
