It can have scratches and such as I plan on using hammer tone paint. That can cover up a lot of sins.

I could even take the fitting off the font where the valve screws in and attach that to something else. I do have 110 gal propane tank. I wonder how long that would burn.

:D

Here's a few shots of my four oldest Coleman lanterns.

This L427 showed up in the mail today. (Found the date stamp, Oct. 1925)
Image

This airOlantern was given to me recently from one of our customers at work.(Near as I can tell, this one is 1920)

This 1928 L220 slant was found at a local second hand store.

Nice lanterns Kevin. Here is my oldest lantern.

Image

It is a Nov 1928 L227 I found it local. It doesn't tilt near as much now but it still does. I did get it burning but other than just clean the dust off and evict the wasps I haven't done much to it. This was the second lantern I got. The first was in March 2010, I think I now have about 20 lanterns. 15-17 stoves. Something like that. I kind hate to count them now. They sometimes multiply between counts.

Here is what the mail lady brought this morning

Image

Nothing special just an Oct 1970 220F that I got from a ICCC member. In pretty good condition, used very little. I am starting to like these 22#Fs, except for that one with the rusted font.

Randy

(edit) the lantern, have had the planes and messy shop for a few years now

I really like that wooden plane. I have a brace of 5 planes that I use. the two you see and a #4 stanley knock off, a #5 Stanley Bailey Knock off and a real #6 Stanley Bailey. I usually just plane down a hunk of wood just for the curls, the sound and it seems to really help my bad shoulder. Sounds crazy but that is how it is.

Here is the outfit I got that plane from. It is by far the most expensive one I have. Cost more than all the others combined. But it is a sweety.

Planes

I have 3 others that I haven't cleaned up and repaired yet but no rush as i have those sizes already covered. I would really like to get a Blum jointer. The past few weeks I have been making little bits from a board of sycamore that tried to become a propeller. I get one side reasonably flat and then send it through the thickness planer to bring the other side to parallel then it can be used. My shoulder feels good after hacking away on that board.

Here is my oldest. 1920-1924 L327. She will be at the light up.

I've gotten 7 more going this week. If I have room I will have 20-30 for the light up.
It feels great getting all the non working lanterns to live again! I still have way too many to do.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

I sure hope that others are getting their lanterns in operating condition for the IRG. Time is running out....I've got some guests dropping by later next week so my plan is to maybe get some shelves done up in the museum this weekend. I also will probably have to muck out the house and make it presentable, gasp!. Gotta at least make it look like I'm a civilized person.

I got side tracked tonight by a neighbor that was on a walk...saw the Nomad in the garage and asked about it. He has a 60's Field and Stream that he's restoring. I saw it when he dragged it home. It needs a ton of work and he didn't know where to start. I kinda hope he doesn't want to do it...I'd like it...I've been watching it for a while. I offered up help to give him some direction on it. Sorry to let you down Kirk...for me the "Nomad" is the latest standy I've done, not a car. The official name, "Sierra Nomad" You haven't seen it in person yet. It's been out 2 times since the Dam Gathering...once in snow on Memorial Day, last weekend up to Tahoe.

I like it...sleeps great! Gets lots of attention. Doug
