Ah, but is it gone? How many other items are retained in their original packaging, often for decades? It's because the original purchasers knew from the beginning they had something special and needed to protect it. How could you be so caullus as to forsake that thoughtfullness for future Coleman lovers to admire Scott? These aren't some cheesy plastic action figure we're talkin' about here...

Kirk, I have seen that done before. There is even places to buy reproduction boxes and labels for some of the much older models. It's like a whole sub-type of collecting for some. Admittedly, they are some of the true hard core collectors and more than slightly disturbed individuals.....

Doug wrote once that these are not Faberge eggs. They are Coleman camping equipment that most toss in the garbage. But I do have a unexplained affinity for them. Damn. I , I -------- I am short circuited.

Keep the boxes. Use the Coleman. Later, if you want to sell the piece, grab the box and you have raised the price. People seem to always want the stuff with the original box. They don't make 'em like they used to. The graphics, even they way they were constructed and the weight of the cardboard isn't like it used to be.

I have to admit. I have old toys that have the original box and I love the fact.
If I found a vintage lantern with its box I would probably keep it if it was sound.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

OK - I have several empty boxes for sale! They will be going for top dollar since you folks seem to be willing to pay for them. 8) I can see it now - a new line of business - reproduction boxes! Just makes sense - we have reproduction globes, labels, mantles, and even parts - so why not boxes?? Sell you Coleman stuff for more than its worth because it's in a box - it had better be d@rn special before I'll ever pay more just to get a box! ;)

and if you really want to spend money, there's always vintage lantern cases...

I will start a line of "reproduction air". Genuine bottle of air packed in Wichita to put in your font or box for that true authentic new ambiance.

I think this whole forum is some kind of trick. Its a conspiracy to drive me out of my mind. Well guess what - I was already out of my mind, so its not going to work!

Of course if every one saved their boxes, then the boxes would be worthless.

:?

But storage would be high dollar.
