Thanks Doug. I forgot about the 220H 12-73 that my dad bought for fishing. I think it was used 2 or 3 times. It's been in the box since at least the late 70's. It just needs cleaned off. This should be a lot of fun.

I can virtually guarantee you that the gas pressure lantern hobby will be one of the most interesting and satisfying hobbies you'll ever enjoy. I'm sitll surprised at how I latched onto it.

Doug just posted an INVALUABLE resource! May I suggest that one of the best way to jump into the overhaul is to click the Rebuild Single Mantle link and have your way with that 200A of yours. You'll be much better prepared to overhaul (if necessary, that is) your 228.

You'll find that the ventilator (lantern top) styles changed around 1962/63 and with the exception of that lantern of your dad's you might be more interested in stuff older than '62. Another exception is that 200A your uncle just gave you. The vent on those is growing on me; it's in nice proportion to that lantern.

If you could only own two "user" lanterns, the two you've shown us in your original post are the ones to have! but you'll be collecting more. Trust me: you'll be collecting more.

Darren, take a gander at the KC Craiglist once in awhile. That thing is LOADED full of lanterns, some are fairly reasonable.

If you bring that big hat lantern on trips, use a 5-gallon bucket to haul it in. That's what I use, stick it in and put a towel over the top of the lantern and tuck it around the sides...... WORKS GREAT!!!!!!!

I'm looking at some torches. The knifes are cool. My uncle says he knows a guy in Parsons that has 90 lanterns. I told him to let me know if any garage sales come up. He's on the lookout now.
