Lighting Coleman lanterns

Postby notned » Mon Jan 16, 2012 7:11 pm

We have two coleman lanterns that we'd like to get ready for this http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=48261&highlight= . But we have difficulty with the pressurizing step. Not sure how to proceed.

There are more qualified people here than me, but this is how I do it.

If its a lantern whos personality is unknown start it with the glass and vent off. Pressurize tank (pump it with finger over the hole about 15-20 times) Then turn knob 1/4 turn holding fire on mantle. On a unknown lantern I preheat the generator with a mini torch.

If the lantern is working right it should light, maybe flame up just a little them calm into a bright light.

More information. We got it lit. It just sort of sputtered until it went out, leaking fuel on the table the entire time. It wasn't leaking a lot of fuel, but any leak is bad.....

You need to find out where the fuel is coming from.

Also check for blockage in air tube, make big difference. Spin the cleaner many times lots of little bits of burn stuff clogs the generator. working the cleaner alot can help.

I find that most of the time they leak at the packing nut behind the on off knob or tip cleaner lever. Try to tighten them first.

When you pump it up the first time prelighting. only put in 15-20 pumps. Open valve 1/4 turn and light it. After the mantel lights and becomes steady. Pump it 15-25 more times and open the valve all the way.
