At that pace you will not exceed replacement. Population dynamics also applies to non living items. Some lanterns will get stolen, broken, lost, sold, borrowed on and on. So at that pace you may even experience a net loss of the total over time. I recommend a much grater effort if you want to have "to many".

I think the real answer to this depends on whether or not you're married.

How many one can acquire, or is allowed to, is a direct function of available storage space and what any spouse will allow you to acquire or display in the house. I have no spouse, ergo....I got plenty of space and can put them where I want. My dog didn't care...it was camping stuff so she was always excited to go and it was all good! 8) Doug

I agree. It is directly proportional to relationship status and available space. Like Doug; I have free range to put lanterns all over the house. Several time I think there are too many in the house. But; still look for them. Crazy huh. :?
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

I always thought it was messed up when someone (spouse, etc..) put a damper on someone's joy..I guess, no, I know that's why I stayed single. I can ride my scooter without someone telling me not to because 'they don't like it'...I can collect modest amounts of Coleman. I can have a vintage trailer. I can have my crazy hobbies and nobody can say they don't want me to do it because 'they say so'...I'm not kicked to the garage or barn.

Lee..there is nothing wrong with collecting lanterns. You know you will fix them up, and probably sell or trade some. Otherwise, they don't take much room, are useful, very nice to look at even when unlit, and they are fairly harmless. Keep on collecting them!!

We are talking about a lantern/stove collection, not an addiction to kiddie porn or something! If people put it in perspective, there are a whole lot worse things people could be collecting...or doing with their hard earned money and rare amount of spare time.
