How many projects do you have in line?

Postby Joamon » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:32 pm

I have noticed that once you start looking....you start to find. And they start to add up. I have alot more of these things waiting in line for a restore or a good clean up than I have time to get to. (and I find myself still looking) Am I the only one with a long list of projects waiting in the wings? (vintage camping equipment and cast iron)

Maybe not the answer you're technically looking for, but I have build #2 under way. Sandblasting the old repurposed pop-up frame, and I have bought most everything but the lumber. Is it a bad thing that build #2 is taking preference to my front porch which needs a new deck, or my shed that is about to fall down? The way I look at it, I will probably be in this house for another 15 years, so I am pacing myself when it comes to what I get done. I can go camping right away, so the trailer is higher on the list of priorities! :)

Repair cracked tile on roof
Remodel master bathroom (torn out to bare studs currently)
Modify Little Guy, removing their minimal galley, adding additional shelf in cabin, and open up dead space currently not available for storage
Remove wallpaper from one bedroom and paint two bedrooms.
Remodel kitchen (not that hard as I'll sub out the cabinets and counter tops and all I'll have to do is prep, texture, and paint the walls and ceiling).
Complete conversion of VW engine into engine/air compressor for sandblasting.
Repair broken junction box for sprinkler wiring
Repair 3 leaking hydraulic floor jacks
Make check valve removal tools for Coleman lanterns/stoves
Move forward with "replica waffle dog irons"
Rotate tires on recently acquired Honda fit (after repairing floor jacks)
Get back on the air with Ham radios
Review and organize 4 file boxes of records to prepare for lawsuit, against AT&T/Sedgwick CMS, to be filed in Federal Court in the next few weeks
Continue slow progress on my Teardrop build
Repair slightly warped hardwood floor in kitchen
Build multiple Ham radio projects (including a microprocessor controlled transceiver) from kits
Major trimming of 1/2 acre lot
Repair rotten kitchen/back yard door at rental property
Repair water pipe leak at rental property currently held in check with epoxy applied by tenant
Prepare small claims action to recover losses from last tenant that trashed the property and skipped w/o paying rent (but he's LAPD and he can run but he can't hide)
Encourage #1 son to buy a house
Provide financial support to #2 son who has just been accepted to the Colorado School of Mines, Petroleum Engineering School

Continue to use Opiate pain killers daily, benzodiazpines occasionally, and battle the "suicide disease" on a daily basis.

And FINALLY: Be nice to, tolerate, indulge, carry out every wish (well almost every wish) and appreciate #1 wife of 39 years.

I won't agree that I've bitten off more than I can chew but I WILL be chewing for quite some time as I'm "all ahead 1/3" (or less) due to my "disease".

Cheers,

Gus

Gus...I don't know how you do it with all the chronic pain you live with. Good luck...

I'm just counting my Coleman projects...I have 4 in the works...the cooler will be done today after I show my big trailer (again!)...got the sticker from Old Coleman Parts yesterday.

Oh, and I need to remove some overspray from my cantilever table 'leg'..then I can take the masking off and it's finished.

Of course if the trailer goes, I have a whole set of new projects to work on! First: figure out a cover for the Grasshopper!! Cuz it will be headed over soon!! IF I sell soon..)

Outside of a ton of yard work that I'm behind on, and scraping at least 1 side of the house for a repaint, and a major garage cleaning...I've got maybe 4 stoves in line. 2 that I have in the shop, and at least 2 that I don't have yet, but have been acquired, not ebay stuff. 3 of the stoves are pre-war. Doug

Hope you move the Aristocrat dragonfire.

Mostly I don't "do it". I still, though, refuse to face the "reality" of my situation , capitulate to the "disease", and do the best I can.

I forgot to mention that the heat/air conditioning ducts in the attic were falling apart and that we recently finished the duct work in my addition. It required spicing into the existing system to connect the addition so I got "permission" from Suzy to take down the heating system for two weeks to refurbish and seal the registers and metal "Y"s, "Tee's", etc, and the main plenum in the attic and replace all of the flexible ducts. As soon as I had rendered the system inoperable we encountered the coldest weather yet this season!!!!!! I got all of the demo done yesterday and discovered that a heat gun will soften the duct tape adhesive and make it really easy to remove duct tape that has been baking/aging in the attic for over thirty years!! Yes!!!!! I'd better finish the heating system upgrade in the "allotted time" (two weeks) and get back on the master bathroom or Suzy's gonna cut off my "manhood". Wish me luck. Fortunately we have all the children we need so our "legacy" won't be impacted if Suzy catches up with me and gets even with me for "breaking" the heating system.

Cheers,

Gus

I too have alot of home repair projects and other things to get to, but I was mostly pointing out the fact that while I might be working on one or two lanterns or stoves at a time, I might buy two or three more. Those numbers don't add up to ever getting finished or caught up. ( kinda reminds me of something else... national debt). The need to get to pile, is growing at a faster rate than the finish pile is. Not to mention, Butt in chair while on forum doesn't equal finished projects.

I hate working on my house, I hate it like a sickness!

Finished 2 projects yesterday..cantilever table and the cooler...2 more are passed off to the Vintage Camping Equipment (Mom)...re-webbing vintage aluminum chairs to match the Grasshopper. Got one for a buck at an Estate sale Sat. Bought some webbing on ebay.

I'm thinking I got a good report today on the Aristocrat so there should be a money order in the mail tomorrow coming from Santa Barbara. She's going to one of the Sisters on the Fly, if all goes well.

Then the Grasshopper moves home, and I have tons more on my to do list!!

I have more projects than I can even think about. Beside all of the lanterns and a few stoves.
Right now I'm building a scooter to race across the USA in april.
Here is a couple pictures. The first is a mock up. The others kind of show all of the custom made mounts, swing arm, shock mounts, kick and centerstand, front fork with disc brakes ect......

Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

I don't think you're playing fair. That's definitely not stock.

Lee, it's not a race, it's a "long-distance reliability and endurance trial!" Don't want to give people the wrong idea because "racing" on the public roads is against the law and I'm sure no traffic codes will be violated on the Cannonball... :?

Regards-HW
